Well, as soon as I heard about it, I knew it would be my submission for this salon.
The transit of Venus, not to happen again for over 100 years. And to make it more singular, we had clouds, so good shots of the sun were fleeting at best.
This was taken with a GF1 and the 45-200 @200mm, ISO 100, 1/4000, f8.

I grabbed this shot of Brian Miser "The Human Fuse" during one of his circus performances. I was hoping to grab his silhouette in flames. Taken with the E-P3 and an old manual focus Pentax 135mm lens. I definitely a "unique moment" that I couldn't capture the same way again if I tried.

This new born was suffering from "omphalocele", a type of abdominal wall defect in which the intestines, liver, and sometimes, all the other organs remain outside of the abdomen in a sac.

i was able to take care of her for a few days before her surgery, i was hoping she'd hang on, but it was inevitable.

patients come and go, while we show genuine passion and empathy, there are others that affect our lives more than anything.

"gloom and doom" as they say when attachment to clients get personal, but to be born with an early challenge such as this, I can't help but think, she did not deserve it, she should have had a chance to to become whatever she's set herself to do when she grows up

The is 3 exposures with several stops difference. I had to stop way down to get the eclipse to even show through, then a couple of exposures opened up a bit to get detail in the canyon. No real way to capture the canyon and the eclipse in a single exposure with it being as high in the sky as it is here. It appears low on the horizon, but I am down in the canyon (Bryce) looking up.

So, yes there is some post processing, but this is what I saw as I was shooting it. My goal was to reproduce it accurately.

OM-1 with B&W film. Daughter playing, followed her into the kitchen to find her playing doggy. She looked up at me and panted when I asked what she was doing.

Foul Ball!

Cropped from a picture taken with my EPM1 + panny 45-200mm during the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park. Both teams sported retro 1912 uniforms. Shown here are Dustin Pedroia at bat and Russell Martin catching(well, not quite). I hope someone out there enjoys it.

Whew, this is a tough one (but I suppose they always are).

I loved the astronomy shots..we've been lucky to have some cool solar events this year. And there were some lovely captures of family/pet moments.

But this was my favourite image of the contest.

Congrats to the winner, tanngrisnir3!

What a great capture..I love the rich textures and shadows of the image. And just the bizarre, surreal runner going through the middle. Just a great juxtaposition.

(FWIW, it was a very close decision with hypnomatt's entry of the child behind the broken window, linked here https://www.mu-43.com/f48/7th-mu-43-salon-competition-capturing-unique-moment-26896/index3.html#post263389 This was an incredible capture with one of the most interesting and gripping compositions I've seen in quite a while).

Thanks again everyone for participating and can't wait to see the next challenge.
