This is the road through the Rugova Gorge, just outside the city of Peja (Peć) in Kosovo. The road used to lead to Montenegro when the whole region was part of Yugoslavia, but these days there is no official border crossing, so it is a dead end leading only to a handful of villages and a small ski resort. Normally it would be very quiet but I made the mistake of visiting on the May Day Holiday, when half of Kosovo apparently drives up to the mountains for a picnic. The first photo shows the traffic that results when all those people try to return home at the same time...

... leading to a number of settlements at altitudes of 1000 to 1500 metres, including the one shown here, Drelaj, which has a mosque as you can see, and also (I think) a school.
