Okay guys, new challege.
This image was taken back in 2012 in Iceland. While stuck at home due to Covid19 I decided to reprocess the images of this trip in Darktable.
These where shot on my Canon 7D, not an Olympus :s

Images are here jpg and raw

Challenge will close at noon on Monday, July 13th, 20h CET.

-----
Post-Processing Challenge Rules (for thems what care):

  1. The Challenge Master provides an image to be "improved" upon by way of post-processing, as well as a closing date for entries.
  2. Entrants are to post their entries, visible in this thread, at a resolution of 1000 to 1600 pixels in the longest dimension, prior to the closing date.
  3. Each entrant is allowed two entries in the Challenge. Please mark entries clearly by number.
  4. At the close of the Challenge, the Challenge Master will select a Winner and Runners-up.
  5. The Winner of the Challenge is honored as the Master of the next Challenge.

Notes:

  • The image(s) used for the challenge must be the Challenge Master's own. Source images are posted solely for the purpose of this Challenge and are not posted to invite critique or criticism nor for other uses. If Entrants post their entries at a photo sharing site, they should credit the owner of the original source material.
  • "Improve" is a subjective term, and may include many creative ideas, as well as traditional "fixing". The Challenge Master agrees that Entrants may make any changes they deem fit in their entries.
  • Entrants are encouraged to enter their best efforts even if this means replacing versions. Please do this by exchanging your latest effort with the image you wish to remove. You may note the replacement in a comment in the edited posting.
  • Entrants are also encouraged to share the tools and techniques used for their entries, however this is not a requirement for entry.
  • As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The Challenge Master is encouraged (but not required) to state the criteria used to decide upon a Winner. While we may not all agree with the result, the Challenge Master's decision is final. Please refrain from posting adverse comment.
  • If the Winner is unable to post a new Challenge within five days, the honor passes to the next Runner-up.

Great shot, like the colours. Processed in ACR and Photoshop.

Incredible view beautifully captured. Lovely light. Very little to do. I edited raw file in DxO PL2 then tweaked in Elements. Cropped, mainly the sky and a bit from the bottom to obtain a "landscape" format.

Awesome location! Processed in DXO PL3 to bring out as much detail as possible. Some additional saturation too.

Entry #2: applied Nik Color Efex "Sunlight" filter to entry #1 but excluded the sky.

I see you went to Iceland before it was "cool". I went to Iceland in 2014, and people asked me "Iceland? Why?!". I have been told it has become a lot more crowded with tourists/Instagrammers since then. Except for when Covid-19 hit; then nature was allowed to breathe a little bit.

Anyway, beautiful country and beautiful shot. Thanks for letting us play with it. :)

Entry 1.

From the length of the shadows, I'm guessing the scene was rather warmer than your camera thought it was. However, I've never been to Iceland :)

Ok, my judgement. I feel this image needs to be in colour. I remember the peak to be very red and the black sand volcanic rock to be very dark, almost black and very gritty.

In 3rd place: @betamax entry #1 - I like that you tried to bring out as much details as possible. Yes, this volcanic island is gritty, very gritty, dust, sand everywhere. I like the crop too

In 2nd palce: @frankmulder entry #1 - I like the vertical crop, accenting the shape of the peak. Nice recovery of details in the rocks and pebbels.
I would make the shadow side a tad brighter.

In 1st place: @RichardC enty#1 - yes you got it right. The sun was low in the sky, about 2 hours before setting. As you are so high north shadows get very long and the scene get very warm. I like this in combination with the slightly desaturated sky.

Over to you @RichardC!
