For this challenge, I decided to scout out an area which is looking a bit abandoned these days. I shot this empty store and then later though I should have included some more street, so I've included a panorama merge. I'll let you decide if you want to do use both images, or just the one or the merged one I provided.

----------

Post-Processing Challenge Rules

The Challenge Master provides an image or images to be "improved" upon by way of post-processing, as well as a closing date for entries.
  1. Entrants are to post their entries, visible in this thread, at a resolution of 1000 to 1600 pixels in the longest dimension, prior to the closing date.
  2. Each entrant is allowed two entries in the Challenge.
  3. At the close of the Challenge, the Challenge Master will select a Winner and Runners-up.
  4. The Winner of the challenge is honored as the Master of the next Challenge

Notes:
  • Images provided by Challenge Masters must be their own. They are posted solely for the purpose of this Challenge; not to invite critique or criticism nor for other uses. If Entrants post their entries at a photo sharing site, they should credit the owner of the original image.
  • "Improve" is a subjective term, and may include many creative ideas, as well as traditional "fixing". The Challenge Master agrees that Entrants may make any changes they deem fit in their entries.
  • Entrants are strongly encouraged to share the tools and techniques used for their entries, however this is not a requirement for entry.
  • Compositing is allowed provided the use of the donor image does not violate any licensing or copyright restrictions.
  • As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The Challenge Master is encouraged (but not required) to state the criteria used to decide upon a Winner. While we may not all agree with the result, the Challenge Master's decision is final. Please refrain from posting adverse comment.
  • If the Winner is unable to post a new Challenge within five days, the honor passes to the next Runner-up.
Good Luck!

Used the wide .jpg. Tuned with PS color/saturation/contrast/etc resized to 1600w. Removed the two long shadows in the foreground as found them distracting. Enhanced the moon (larger).

I also worked from both raw files and merged them into a panorama. But I had to do evil things in Hugin to get them to match convincingly. Cropped it to a 2.39:1 cinema aspect ratio.

Used the two raw files, minimal editing in DxO PL2 identical for the two files, then used Elements to panorama-merge the two images, then used Highlights/Shadows and other light adjustments, tried to adjust verticals in DxO Viewpoint 3, then cropped in Elements.

Faces on buildings always strike me as a little surreal. So have tried to preserve that.

Entry #2: Did not like my B&W version, so I've replaced it with a Fuji Provia film emulation using DxO FilmPack 5 applied to entry #1.

Thanks everyone for your entries! Lots of skill and imagination shown as always.

All the entries were great, but the 3 that were a hair in front of the rest, starting from #3 were:

#3 @WhidbeyLVR efforts with Huggins. the 3:2 image is remarkable Lyle. I had tried Huggins years ago, but couldn't work it out. I should give it another try. My feeble attempt here involved multiple passes through LR6.

#2 @RichardC 2nd dystopian theme... The motion blurr type effects on the clouds with the teal/black tones was brilliant.

AND

#1 @Tywais natural edits, with a focus on the moon. Simple, but effective!

over to you Mike!

Thank you! Really didn't expect to win as I enter them to work on my PS skills and the fun factor plus the skills and imagination of others is difficult to top.

Will dig through my archive or just go out and shoot something new. :)
