A quintessential Puget Sound scene of the Mukilteo Lighthouse (from the ferry, arriving at the Mukilteo terminal from Clinton, Whidbey Island). They are moving the ferry terminal to new facilities a few hundred yards east. The new terminal is scheduled to open before the end of the year. So this view will no longer be quite so close, nor as common.

Raw and pg files are here.

Challenge will close on Wednesday, December 2nd at 8:00 AM, Seattle local time (UTC -8).

----------

Post-Processing Challenge Rules

The Challenge Master provides an image or images to be "improved" upon by way of post-processing, as well as a closing date for entries.
  1. Entrants are to post their entries, visible in this thread, at a resolution of 1000 to 1600 pixels in the longest dimension, prior to the closing date.
  2. Each entrant is allowed two entries in the Challenge.
  3. At the close of the Challenge, the Challenge Master will select a Winner and Runners-up.
  4. The Winner of the challenge is honored as the Master of the next Challenge

Notes:
  • Images provided by Challenge Masters must be their own. They are posted solely for the purpose of this Challenge; not to invite critique or criticism nor for other uses. If Entrants post their entries at a photo sharing site, they should credit the owner of the original image.
  • "Improve" is a subjective term, and may include many creative ideas, as well as traditional "fixing". The Challenge Master agrees that Entrants may make any changes they deem fit in their entries.
  • Entrants are strongly encouraged to share the tools and techniques used for their entries, however this is not a requirement for entry.
  • Compositing is allowed provided the use of the donor image does not violate any licensing or copyright restrictions.
  • As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The Challenge Master is encouraged (but not required) to state the criteria used to decide upon a Winner. While we may not all agree with the result, the Challenge Master's decision is final. Please refrain from posting adverse comment.
  • If the Winner is unable to post a new Challenge within five days, the honor passes to the next Runner-up.

Edit: realised tonight I've got two graduated filters saved as a default setting in camera raw - every time I open a picture in ACR it acquires two grads! Thought I'd got rid of this once but obviously not. Lightened left side of this picture to compensate. Won't make much difference to entry 1 :)

Edited raw file in DxO PL2 then tweaked it further in Elements (mainly light/contrast levels and a crop).

Entry #1. Removed the newish building on the left; shoved the ducks to the right; played with colours; denoising and sharpening.

Adjusted the temperature and balance. Pulled down the shadows and pulled the orange luminance. Wanted to create a misty morning sunrise effect.

@WhidbeyLVR I found something strange when I looked at the EXIF of the JPG in Irfanview:

It seems to say it was taken with the OLY 14-42mm, not the P20/1.7.
Seems very strange to me as DxO shows it as either P20 I or P20 II

Yes, strange. Camera was a close-out E-PL3 that I picked up as a backup beater for a couple hundred $$$. I’m not sure the FW version. I would tend to believe the raw file data, but I will look into it further.

Edit: the EXIF also says min and max focal length are both 20mm and max aperture f1.4 to f1.6, which are more or less consistent with the P-20. EXIF also lists the FW versions of both lens and body, if they matter.
