Mount Baker summit, from Artist Point on the lower NE flank (opposite side of the mountain from my normal view). From a pandemic day-trip last month, fighting cabin-fever.

Sunny, high-contrast, shot roughly into the sun, mid-afternoon. See what you can make of it.

Raw and JPG files are here. If your image editor doesn't like the original raw file, try the version edited to appear as E-M1MarkII.

Challenge will close at 7:00 AM Wednesday morning, October 21st, Seattle local time (PDT or UTC-7).

-----
Post-Processing Challenge Rules:
  1. The Challenge Master provides an image or images to be "improved" upon by way of post-processing, as well as a closing date for entries.
  2. Entrants are to post their entries, visible in this thread, at a resolution of 1000 to 1600 pixels in the longest dimension, prior to the closing date.
  3. Each entrant is allowed two entries in the Challenge. Please mark entries clearly by number.
  4. At the close of the Challenge, the Challenge Master will select a Winner and Runners-up.
  5. The Winner of the Challenge is honored as the Master of the next Challenge.

Notes:
  • The image(s) used for the challenge must be the Challenge Master's own. Source images are posted solely for the purpose of this Challenge and are not posted to invite critique or criticism nor for other uses. If Entrants post their entries at a photo sharing site, they should credit the owner of the original source material.
  • "Improve" is a subjective term, and may include many creative ideas, as well as traditional "fixing". The Challenge Master agrees that Entrants may make any changes they deem fit in their entries.
  • Entrants are encouraged to enter their best efforts even if this means replacing versions. Please do this by exchanging your latest effort with the image you wish to remove. You may note the replacement in a comment in the edited posting.
  • Entrants are also encouraged to share the tools and techniques used for their entries, however this is not a requirement for entry.
  • As we all know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The Challenge Master is encouraged (but not required) to state the criteria used to decide upon a Winner. While we may not all agree with the result, the Challenge Master's decision is final. Please refrain from posting adverse comment.
  • If the Winner is unable to post a new Challenge within five days, the honor passes to the next Runner-up.

What a beautiful scene, Lyle.

Here is my submission - ACR (using Adobe Landscape) with a gradient for the sky - then various adjustments for color, brightness and contrast in Photoshop. Didn't notice the eagle until I brought back the sky. Did try to break through the blue haze a bit and used a Kelvin of 5800 to get the snow close to neutral. Just choices - not a landscape guy, but love all the work that is presented to inspire my eyes of places I may not get to see in person....

Some more experimentation with range masks in Adobe Camera Raw. The major lift was the shadows followed by balancing the luminance front to back.
Lovely pic. It was only when saving that I saw the bird, all 25 pixels of it. I put out some bait and lured it closer.

Edited to add some haze to the bird

Seeing this crop was an accident - it's just how it appeared when using the legacy export module in PS. I immediately liked the diagonals. In fact, it's how I discovered your bird. Mindful of the aphorism, "To add interest to a photograph, add a bird," I thought a slightly more noticeable bird might help matters. This one's a bit further away.

Fortunately, the lifted shadows were wonderfully clean and just a little Topaz DeNoise AI took care of that and the sharpening.

Similarly edited to add haze to the bird.

About birds, 3 birds in the sky and a possible air-plane?
Picture out of contest of course!

I’ll look into it. Are you using PL3 or PL2?
Also Photoshop Elements 14 Camera Raw could not open it. Looks like both programs do not know about E-M5 mkIII.
I just tried to open the .ORF file in DxO PL2, did not work!
Exif data problem.
So for you who are still using PL2, time for an upgrade?
Or change the EXIF to say E-M5 mkII?
Looks like the E-M5 Mk3 isn't widely supported yet, so I edited the EXIF data in a copy of the raw file to E-M1MarkII. It now opens in DxO PL2 and presumably other editors. The modified raw file is now available here.

Another very beautiful landscape. I edited jpeg file in DxO PL2 (light levels, a little geometry adjustment, minimal noise filtering), then tweaked in Elements (including some highlight/shadow, contrast, and a little dynamic contrast using ON1 Effects plug-in, cropped a bit from the bottom). I'll try using the EXIF-modified raw file and if I get something meaningfully different, I'll post a 2nd entry.
