I've been planning this since the week's theme was announced. Just got around to trying it. Also, I thought I would do double duty and shoot for the monthly contest as well.

These are my favorite climbing chocks. They have a unique taper on multiple sides that make them fit better into a flare than anything else. Flare being a crack in the rock that changes width along its depth.

Gutted I fell behind on this project, its been a mega busy start to the year at work, and I've been pulling together my entries for the local camera club's annual comp (excuses excuses!). I playing catch up but with photos taken in the correct time frame... hopefully these will count!

I covered a friends daughters 1st Birthday Party 19th Jan, my first time as a working photographer where the pressure was on to get a good set of photos (I'm going to take that as improvise, adapt, overcome #1). It was also my first time using a speedlight (I'm going to take that as improvise, adapt, overcome #2) and the unit arrived approximately 45 minutes before I turned up at the party... the drive was half an hour which gave me about 15 minutes to get to grips with it! Basically I winged it which I'm going to take as improvise, adapt, overcome #3. Here are a couple of photos from the party...

2nd part of my catch up... here are a few of my attempts at flare taken during a trip to London last week (but only processed tonight).

One of the wooden toys that my grandfather made for me before he passed when I was little. My daughter loves it, it's apparently a duck-dog named "flippy flappy"

Edit for context: All taken after dark with a Godox flash firing through a shoot through white umbrella, attached via sync cord since my radio triggers weren't working. The first is a wine stopper that my father in law turned for us as a gift along with another and some pens. I used a polarizer to kill some of the highlights on the round portion. The second is a family antique, a round(ish) clawfoot table, lit from above for the hard shadow at the edge. The third is an antique chest that holds our board games, I like the long split in the wood that runs its length. I shot that that one with light above and camera left, with a silver reflector camera right to illuminate the side. I think my third ever attempt at off camera flash. All photos with the P42.5/1.7.

Out on a winter walk earlier in the week with the intention of getting some nice shots of trees in an among the snow... came across a fallen tree and some fairy doors!

I know, other than fairies, who puts doors in tree knots. Is this an English thing

I don't know what you mean... I thought it was real fairies that made these!

I drug my wife out to the Smokies to the Little Greenbrier schoolhouse for this week's challenge. It was the first thing that came to mind when the theme was posted. I have a similar shot with a different lens. This time I wanted a little more in the shot. Using the Leica Elmarit-R 28 2.8 + Kipon FR.
