    what's the difference between 40-150mm f/4.0-5.6 M.ZUIKO Digital ED and 40-150mm f4.0-5.6 R M.Zuiko Digital ED. i'm guessing the R M version is the new one of the two.

    I think the R version was released around the E-P3 timeframe. My speculation/understanding was that there had been AF performance improvements when going to the R, but I don't know if that's really the case.

    The R is the newer version. There are cosmetic changes but the main difference is better coatings on the optical elements.

    I always thought they were optically the same, and the factory may have changed their coating process as time went on. Maybe the later coatings were eaier to deposit.

    thank you. i've just brought a R version at good price. well it'll give me the extra reach i'm after till i can afford the pro version.
