I just bought a 4/3 (non-m4/3) Oly 9-18 with adapter for a good price. It has a 72mm front filter thread.

Can I use a slim 72mm ND filter with the lens (will a slim 72mm ND filter vignette at 9mm, or do I need 77mm)?

I would probably buy a single 72mm Haida Slim ND1.8 (64x, 6 stops) ND filter for it, if it does not vignette.

Thank you in advance.

Nobody ever put a ND filter on 4/3 O9-18? Would 72mm work, or is 77mm required? Thank you!

Thanks. The lens takes 72mm filter (as it says so on the lens front), but I wonder if such wide angle lens needs a wider ND filter to avoid vignetting.

ah, that’s another thing, isn’t it? If you have a local camera shop that sells filters, I’d suggest trying one on and taking some test shots at 9mm.

Hoya and I’m sure a few others make low-profile filters that have a smaller ring thickness that can help on tricky lenses. Other alternative is something more extreme like a Lee or Cokin filter system.

Good luck!

I've used a step up ring for my 77mm filters on a 72mm lens. THis allows for using a 4 Stop ND, and a CPL. But on ultra wide lenses I would not use a CPL for outdoor shooting, the Polarizer effect will not cover the entire sky.
