Santa came early, I got the lens today

Mounted it and started to play

For about 2 minutes I though I had a problem because the camera wouldn't
    exit from manual focus

Then I slid the focus ring forward and voila [duh]

Didn't have time to use it - build feels solid

Definitely not a small kit anymore with the lens and battery holder,
but still much much better than a whale sized FF with 24-70 2.8

Ha ha - I guess any of us who have one of the Oly lenses with the clutch has done this at some point. My 17/1.8 had me ready to box it up for repair until I realised my stupidity!

    Real Name:
I guess they ship the lens with the focus ring pulled back because I was in the same boat when I got mines. Been shooting legacy lens for three weeks and the 12-40 will be my one and only AF lens. I was all excited in opening the box and then greatly disappointed when the lens won't autofocus. Duh moment came after I recall some online review that the focus ring do slide back and fore to enable manual focusing.

I did the exact same thing. Couldn't figure it out then voila!

Glad you got that worked out (I made the mistake a few times in the early days of the 12mm before I got used to the MF ring), but there's something wrong with your lens. Most of them are 12mm at the wide end - your's seem to be missing the widest 2mm!

Probably need to send it back for replacement.

So if made by elves it's only a 14-40, if made by olympus you get 12-40...think I'll stick with olympus.
