    Show "Cars"

I visited a local car show with my G9ii and a few lenses over the weekend. I was going for more abstract images rather than picture of cars really, and was pretty happy with what I got.

what photography related item did you buy this week?

I owned the original 12-35 f2.8, and while I was very happy with the image quality, I never clicked with the zoom range. I haven’t decided if I will keep my 14-140 or 12-60 yet, but I suspect I will probably keep both for different purposes. I was a little surprised by how much bigger and...

what photography related item did you buy this week?

I bought a couple of third party batteries and dual charger for my G9ii, and a padded insert for my everyday backpack so I can take my camera and a couple of lenses to shoot on my way to or from work.

what photography related item did you buy this week?

New camera day 😊 I was offered much more than I was expecting for my G95 (body only) as a trade in on a G9ii. I considered buying the body only, but the bundle makes the 12-60 half of its normal cost, so I had no choice really. Added a 2 pack of 128GB cards to complete the setup. Battery is...

what photography related item did you buy this week?

I’ve been to full frame and back. I picked up a lightly used 9mm f1.7 to cover the wide end.

If I get a second body...

Since you “spend time wading around in streams” I would have thought something weather and splash resistant would be at the top of your list? I know it is a little bigger than you would like, but the G85 is an excellent camera. Newer than the GX85, better IS (dual IS 2 with the right lens)...

    Your Top 5 : June 2018

A slower month for me in June. No trips overseas or other events. The novelty hasn’t worn off the drone yet, so I took more airborne photos than with my m4/3 gear.

what photography related item did you buy this week?

I have six 20x30 prints of my photos hanging in my house already. Some are 20x30, others are native 4/3 aspect ration of roughly 20x26.7. I have framed a couple more that size as gifts for family members. I use a local framer that sells ready made frames the right size, and cuts mat boards to...

what photography related item did you buy this week?

I got some prints done from some recent trips. Twelve 12x16s And a 20x30 of this: Next weekend I’ll take them to the framer!

Big and Bad, Little and Good. - Musings by David Thorpe on mft

I have 9 m43 lenses, most of them are quite small and light for what they do, and the overall system size is much smaller than the full frame DSLR I used to shoot with. Most of the time I want more DOF, not less, so for my shooting equivalence works in my favour more often than not. But I do...

Panasonic Lens-BIg Discounts on Premium lenses

I think some people are getting overly emotional about the 100-400 repair situation. Which is easy for me to say, because I don't own one, and am happy with the 100-300ii for my telephoto needs. Maybe I'd be emotional if I had bought one, but looking at it rationally, I would be surprised if the...

    DJI Drone Photography Showcase

A few photos from my 2nd flight with my new Mavic Pro. (The 1st flight was just learning to fly.) I have a large sports field 50 metres from my house which is handy for testing. Both are 5 bracketed raw shots combined in Aurora HDR.

what photography related item did you buy this week?

Taking my photography to another level... I got it for a good discount (presumably because if rumours are to be believed, the Mavic Pro 2 is not far away, but that is likely to be more money than I want to spend on my first drone.) I had a blast learning to fly it at a local park this...

    DMW-HGR2 on GX85

For anybody still wondering if the DMW-HGR2 grip released with the GX9 fits the GX85, I received mine yesterday, and I'm glad to confirm that yes it does. The good: The HGR2 improves the ergonomics of the GX85 enormously. It is much more comfortable to hold, in fact I'd rate the comfort as...

    Show your bag (with contents)!

I have 3 camera bags that I use on different occasions. The smallest is a Lowepro Format TLZ10, which lives in the bottom of the general purpose backpack that I carry to work everyday. It usually has my GX85 and 14-140 zoom in it, but sometimes I'll swap the lens for something else. It is a bit...

Ideas on camera strap - wrist to neck?

I can't stand neck straps, they always seem to get tangled and\or in the way just at the wrong moment for me. So I use a Peak Design Cuff (v2) wrist strap, and have a Capture Clip on each of my bags. When I want my hands free I just clip the camera into to Capture Clip, unclip the Cuff, and wrap...

How many of you that do travel/landscape carry a second body?

I like shooting with 2 bodies to reduce lens swaps. But I also enjoy having 2 quite different bodies with different strengths for different uses.

what photography related item did you buy this week?

I picked up my third Peak Design Capture Clip v3 yesterday. Clip only, without the tripod plate this time. I have 2 cameras that I use with 3 different bags, and moving clips between bags is a bit of a drag, now I don't have to. Oh, and a hot shoe cover for my GX85. I lost the one that came...

    Panasonic G9 Reviews & Experiences

I love the handling of the G9, and the size of the GX85, but if I could only have one camera, I would choose something in between, like the G85. Fortunately there are lots of cameras, each with a different set of compromises, so we can all choose what works for us.

    Stupid GAS strikes again (sigh)

I kinda hope that my 15 f1.7 and 42.5 f1.2 Leicas qualify as nice primes. I’d put the Oly 60 macro and 25 f1.4 (if you can avoid the CA) in that category too. Or did you mean I need ANOTHER nice prime? The Oly 75 maybe?

    Stupid GAS strikes again (sigh)

Minimalism means only owning one system with only two camera bodies and only ten lenses...... That’s my definition, and i’m sticking to it! Now I just need to aquire one more lens to achieve minimalism :daz:

what photography related item did you buy this week?

Most of the places I looked either had no stock, or wouldn’t ship to NZ. I’m keen to try it out, as the ergonomics are my only real complaint about the GX85. If the HGR2 improves the grip without adding too much bulk i’ll Be happy.
  42. scotttnz

what photography related item did you buy this week?

DMW-HGR2 add on grip for my GX85. I ordered it from Adorama as Panasonic NZ told me they aren’t bringing them into the country. The shipping cost to the far side of nowhere is almost as much as the grip, but that’s the price we pay for living in paradise. It should be here in 2-3 weeks.

    Battery Grip

That was one of my reasons for upgrading from the G85 to G9. I considered adding the battery grip to the G85, but that would have added too much vertical height to comfortably fit in my camera bags (Peak Design Everyday Slings, which I am a big fan of) so I would have probably had to go bag...
