Big News Coming from OMSystems 30/01/24 ?

NR says that the II consists of a rebranding i think this plays into many folks concerns about OM. Clearly the OM-1 had been in the Olympus development pipeline and this sounds more like an incremental refresh then a new system. The concern is that OM is not all that interested in innovating...

    Next OMDS Camera?

What is curious to me is that over the past couple years the used prices of Pen-f’s have steadily inched up which suggests that the demand is there. I know it is a niche but we are a dedicated niche :th_salute:. A Pen-f II probably wouldn’t hurt any existing sales. But I agree that it is...

Sony drops two new A7C cameras

Not bad - I had it for a Paris trip in 10/22. As I remember I had it configured to automatically enlarge in the EVF when you manually focussed (which might be the default) and once you get the hang of it, it was pretty seamless.

Sony drops two new A7C cameras

Thanks Ken. Does that mean that the 0.7x magnification on the A7CR is going to be more comfortable to use than the 0.59x of the A7C? They are both 0.39" in size. On a related note, are they really giving the measurement of size in inches?

Sony drops two new A7C cameras

I had an A7C (original flavor). The kit lens was nice, if a bit slow. I did make much use of the Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 which was great. My one big complaint was the dinky EVF which was not fun to use. AFAIK, they haven't changed it which I'm actually kind of surprised at.

Advice on where to visit after Iceland?

Stunningly beautiful country. I minored in Geology in college so it holds a real fascination for me. It is a unique opportunity as a landscape photographer and the people are welcoming. We've been there twice and I'd go back in a heartbeat.

OM-1 C-AF and subject detection: frequent misfocus?

Imaging Resource sample raws show little difference between EM1.3 and OM1

Imaging Resource sample raws show little difference between EM1.3 and OM1

I get that workspace coordinates with Olympus raw output to emulate the in-camera jpeg. And it seems to me you are suggesting that the in-camera adjustments can be used as a kind pre-visualization tool through Workspace to manage highlight and shadow detail through controlled exposure and...

    Have you pre-ordered the OM-1?

I dunno. I think it depends on how you define 'storming success' I'm just not sure if the limited availability is a reflection of parts/manufacturing capacity shortages across the board (you can't find a Nikon Z9 or a Nikon 24-120 lens anywhere either), or a very conservative strategy of OMS...

    Have you pre-ordered the OM-1?

Yeah. He'd have credibility if he'd just stated at the outset that he is just looking at specs. It is really an "I really like my E-M1X and oh by the way I heard about this OM-1 but I really like my E-M1X." As it is, it's just clickbait cashing in on new camera buzz.

    Have you pre-ordered the OM-1?

While it is a sensible article, it should be noted that Stirr has not used the OM-1.

Imaging Resource sample raws show little difference between EM1.3 and OM1

I've always wondered about this as well. If the code space is available, it should be possible as an update - a variation of HHHR reduced back to 20 (or more) mpx.

OM-1 vs EM1.3 at ISO 200 with EV & shadow pushing

Honestly I'm surprised at those higher (which I define as 3200+) ISO's. They certainly look better than the EM1-II and even match my current APS-C. You combine that with tracking, pro-capture and weather sealing (to name a few) and that is a nice system . . .

OM-1 vs EM1.3 at ISO 200 with EV & shadow pushing

I tend to agree with MadMarco above. Consider the PDR of an M43, APS-C, and FF here. Note that they bunch up around the 'middle' ISO ranges, but they diverge more as ISO's increase. OM hasn't been particularly explicit about this, but I keep hearing the qualification 'at higher ISO's' when...

    Have you pre-ordered the OM-1?

A conundrum . . . you can't take photos with your house, but it's tough to live inside your camera!! :whistling: But yeah, those are the right priorities!

    I've pre-ordered but like Robstar1963 above I'm a bit ambivalent.

OM-1 vs EM1.3 at ISO 200 with EV & shadow pushing

I think the only thing that bothers me about that is the "combine to reduce noise that tends to occur at high sensitivities" Don't get me wrong - I think that if substantively true, that is a real improvement certainly for action shooters. Improved high ISO performance is almost always a...

OM-1 vs EM1.3 at ISO 200 with EV & shadow pushing

You'd think this would be so based on past gains in sensor improvements, but that's an assumption and not a given. It seems to me that the biggest gains over the past 5 or so years have been in sensor read speed (on the hardware side) but more significantly in software in combination with...

Would you slim down to 2 lenses ?

The O12-100 is neither small nor light, but it is one lens. Depending on what bag you have, it might not fit . . . so I'm not sure what criteria you find most problematic. It is a great lens and does provide sync IS on the 1.2. If I could only have one lens, that would be it (though I'd...

    Refresh my Micro 4/3 Kit

Thanks for the correction - I did not know the M1 supports Sync IS. As I remember the scan time for silent shutter on the M2 was about 3 times faster than the M1 (but don't quote me on that either!!). I just alway enjoyed shooting with the M2 more than the M1. It felt more solid and was...

    Refresh my Micro 4/3 Kit

I went from an MK1 to an MK2. There is a significant difference between the two in features and performance - dual IS, pro-capture, silent shutter, and basic IQ ( see PDR). I'm hoping that with the release of the new body, some of the MK2/3 might shake loose on the used market.

    Refresh my Micro 4/3 Kit

If 800 is your goal, doesn't your 100-400 with your 1.4tc in DX crop mode on the Z9 get you to 860mm with pretty much the same resolution as any of the Oly's? Granted the 150-400 will get you out to 1000 (ff env) on an Oly with (I think) dual IS . . .

    System musings

Well your story pushes a lot of buttons for me. I've always wanted a Leica for the feel, the history, and the shooting experience, but I just could never get my head around cost - even though I could afford it. I've been shooting Nikons for close to 50 years so the UI is basically ingrained...

Leica M vs Pen F? Eh?

It's always fun to mess around with different cameras and a sobering tonic to remember that enjoyment often has little to do with price. I missed my Pen enough to purchase one again along with a curated set of lenses. I would love a Leica for a number of reasons and almost (almost!) went in...

Wildlife Shooters - Switching from EM1 MKII to Nikon D500 Questions

Any place to rent a system there? I'm curious to see what tweaks (if any) Olympus has made to the EM1X's sensor in terms of DR and noise. As much as I like the EM1-II, the D500 files just seem to me to capture a bit more DR and are a bit cleaner in terms of noise - that old M43 vx APSC sensor...

I agree. There's no reason not to wait and see. Olympus lenses are really a joy to use and if the X performs well then it might be a great system.
