    GF3 as a budget superzoom.

I've thought about getting an FZ200 because my current primary camera is a Fuji X100 which I got for a song after misplacing my GX1 at Honeyman State Park in August, 2016 (a day that will live in infamy). I had a 200mm lens from a film camera that I used with the GX1. So I was thinking maybe...

    I have betrayed you all!

I believe that body is sold as the GX85 in the US (but I could be wrong). I loved the solid feel of my gx1. The GX85 looks ideal, but I would have to scrape up another $200 for a used kit and be sure not to mention the total price to my wife :)

    I have betrayed you all!

So I had a GX1 that I accidentally left hanging in a bathroom in Oregon, along with some lenses. It served me well for three years and I got some good shots of our two years in Qatar. It even survived a drop onto hard tile. The only problem I had with it was the lack of an EVF, since I still...

Goodbye old friend: GX1 lost on vacation

Car repairs prevented the purchase of the Fuji X100, so I bid on a Lumix Fz8. I have an old FZ3 that my daughter uses. I won the auction for $47.50 shipped, and I have to say that it is the best $50 camera I have ever owned. Sure, the low light performance is not as good as the GX1 with a...

A friend heard about my predicament and has an old Fuji x100 he said he would sell me for a song. It has a viewfinder and a good reputation, although it is a six year old camera.

Goodbye old friend: GX1 lost on vacation

A week ago I used my thrift store Canon SX260 ($8) to take some photos of bicycles I was selling online. I haven't been able to find it for a week. My teen son needs my phone so I will be without a camera. I'm tempted to buy a refurbished Canon T5 rebel. Sure, it's huge and ungainly, but...

Goodbye old friend: GX1 lost on vacation

Snapseed is especially wonderful. My wife was having phone problems so we swapped and I have a very poor camera on my phone now. But I did install CHDK on my thrift store point and shoot (Canon sx260 HS) and am getting some interesting results, albeit with more noise than the GX1.

Adding a viewfinder to a used GX1 body is certainly an option, but then I'm into it for $250, and for not much more I could get a GX7.

That is excellent advice. The only thing I truly dislike about the cheap Canon P/S and the phone is the time it takes to open an app or cycle up the device and get a photo. With the GX1 I could turn it on and shoot something from a car window (as a passsenger) and get *something*. Conversely...

Goodbye old friend: GX1 lost on vacation

After more than three years of pretty constant use, including two years in Doha, I left my camera and four lenses (14mm, 14-42, and a Vivitar 210mm film lens) hanging on the bathroom wall at Honeyman State Park in Oregon. Most of our vacation photos on the coast were on there, and I didn't have...

<$200 150mm (or so) lens for my Lumix GX1

Thank you all for the great advice. The signal-noise ratio on this site is unbeatable. I was hoping to buy the 45-150 before leaving on a trip to the Oregon coast but ran out of time, so I'll use my legacy 210mm and then probably sell my old lens when I return to finance the 45-150mm.

<$200 150mm (or so) lens for my Lumix GX1

Hi, I am using an adapted 200mm Olympus (I think OM mount) on my GX1 for fun. It cost like $40, and it is enjoyable to use. I have two problems (other than being a lazy photographer who can barely shoot in manual). 1. Even in manual mode, I can't figure out how to adjust the exposure. I can...

Is anyone using a GX1 video firmware hack?

Ok, so I read here or somewhere else that the video hacks tend to reduce some artifacts in scenes with a great deal of motion involving subjects such as grass or fire, but otherwise aren't really worth it and decrease the reliability somewhat, making the camera less useful for professional work.

Shooting in daylight without an EVF

Hi, I use a GX1 but I'm too cheap to get an EVF. I live in the Middle East, however, so daytime shooting can be tricky because the LCD is hard to see. Is there some kind of hood or something I could make/attach that would make it easier to see? I've seen the hoodman loupe, and it is huge.

My cheap Chinese cell phone is as good as an $80 Panny point and shoot, in daylight. I ended up selling the Olympus locally because it was a little big for my pocket and buying a Panasonic FH10 for $80 at the store in this photo. It is quite small. Someone in this thread said that cell phone...

I'm not sure why I'm getting lectured about the smart phone I purchased. I didn't buy it to take photos. I used to own an S95, and sold it for the Panasonic GX1. That's something to consider. I don't use a phone with a monthly data plan, because that's $600 a year I'd rather spend on...

Travel photography in Europe with four kids and a non-enthusiast spouse

Update: I used the 14mm the first few days and kept the camera in my pocket. After three days of thousands of tourists with entry-level or better DSLRs everwhere I went, I said screw it and put on the kit lens with the hood and attached the neck strap and let my geek flag fly. I took 400...

I'm leaving for Europe tomorrow for a month with my family of six. I've got a Panasonic GX1, a 14mm and the kit 14-42 lens. I am such an amateur that the primary appeal of the 14mm for me is that I can use the smaller, less obtrusive case. My wife is not excited about me bringing the camera...

Beginner question: Switching between 14mm and 14-42mm kit lens with GX1

Thanks, everyone, for the advice. It looks like both lenses have fans. One thing I like about the 14-42mm h-hfs1442A is being able to zoom in a little in museum settings, and the fun and easy bokeh. I also have a 50mm Olympus prime with an adapter but don't use it much. It's a little soft...

    Tempted by cheap Oly lenses

Thanks to everyone for the excellent, informed advice. I think I read that the pancake 14-42mm was a little blurry with the early GX1 bodies, but that the problem was fixed with either a later lens or body. Something to do with the heavy shutter of the early GX1, I think. It sounds like a...

    Mirrorless camera sales in decline
