Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II Image Thread

While I'm yet to be convinced there is a meaningful resolution advantage over the 16mp sensor, the results at ISO 64 are just beautiful. A couple from a trip to a nature reserve on Saturday. Olympus 25mm F1.2 Pro - Exceptional

Sure, but as the owner of all of: an APO-Summicron-M 50mm F2; Summilux 50mm F1.4 ASPH; Sigma Art 50mm F1.4 and Nikon 58mm F1.4G I feel a little qualified to assess 50mm equivalent lenses. Call me an overenthusiastic purchaser if you like, but I'm basing these views on real experience with a...

    Olympus 25mm F1.2 Pro - Exceptional

Joe, I agree with what you wrote above. I should have mentioned the speed of focus, but this is a really useable lens for video and action as a consequence. I took some video of my son last night and it was very impressive. I thought your zip example might have been moire (couldn't really see...

    Olympus 25mm F1.2 Pro - Exceptional

At least I didn't say "three dimensionality"... Seriously, I haven't seen a sub 45mm lens for M43s render like this. It looks like results from my 35mm sensor cameras.

    Olympus 25mm F1.2 Pro - Exceptional

I've posted this review on other sites, but I did want to let people know this lens is exceptional. Here's my review of the Olympus 25mm F1.2: Nifty 25: Olympus 25mm F1.2 Pro To me, its the best prime bar none for the system, including the 75mm F1.8 (though I don't have the Nocticron). It's a...

For those that have the Olympus 25mm f1.2 - a question

You should get sharp results at the point of focus even at F1.2. Try taking a portrait at F1.2 using face detect on a static subject in good light. You should see iris detail. My copy is excellent from F1.2 and sharpens up to about F2.8

Some thoughts on the E-M1 in use

The E-PL5 is a nice camera and I can see how it leaves the house more as a take anywhere camera. I have the excuse of carrying a Billingham Hadley Pro as my work bag, so I can fit a DSLR or the E-M1 plus lenses with ease (not that my chiropractor would agree when he treats my bad back!).

Some thoughts on the E-M1 in use

I can well believe it - more capable/functional cameras are often difficult to love at first but end up being off the scale useful. I can compare my D800E, which I hated in first use, but now i get more of the available settings and functionality I really value. Equally, there is clearly a far...

Some thoughts on the E-M1 in use

I like the E-P5 a lot (it was invaluable for my recent trip to see Fleetwood Mac), but I do think that it would have made more sense to integrate the EVF into the body. There's no getting away from the fact the E-P5+VF-4 is taller than the E-M1. I think I will keep the E-M1, but that's a...

Some thoughts on the E-M1 in use

Cheers - that light was gone in about 10 seconds, I was very happy to shoot it. I would argue that the general speed in operation (not AF because the was my Voigtlander 17.5, rather speed of turn on an operation) and customisability (assigning buttons for MF presets etc) of the camera is what...

Some thoughts on the E-M1 in use

No magic to my views on the E-M1, it's a less flashy camera with more capability for getting the shots you want. The only things that really annoyed me were the lens release button and the hotshot cover. I do feel that certain lenses are made to look either better or worse with the AA less...

Appreciation of the Voigtländer 17.5mm F0.95 lens

Hi Ed, you've reminded me to pick up my voigtlander and try it with my new E-P5. F0.95 is even more useable with a 1/8000 shutter! Nice pictures by the way! I particularly like the cat... Cheers, Simon

Oh deer - Bolderwood with my GH3

Yes, I thought the results from the 100-300 were fine at the long end. It is softer than some of the really fast primes (or the two F2.8 zooms panny makes) but it is all relative - for a long zoom these results were fine. It's an excellent lens that seems about equal with the 75-300 mk I used...

What to do with an underused GX1?

For me I'm not sure it would be limited use - but I agree with you that if I didn't have a purpose in mind for it it could become an expensive fool's errand.

What to do with an underused GX1?

That's a pity. Fortunately I love my landscape photography and I've recently become really interested in IR work. I figure I can slip the GX1 into my backpack when I take out my GH3 for visible light work to get some (extreme) contrasts and share lenses. Ah well, I will report how it goes!

What to do with an underused GX1?

Thanks Dan. I have a GH3 that I've been using as my main M43s camera but I also own an E-M5. Despite what people might think they are very complimentary. I liked the GX1 a lot but it became a bit of a "house" camera (it doesn't do its best work in the winter murk that persists in the UK...

    "Street" market

Cheers and thanks for the comments about the colours. It's all too easy to mess up the colours of a winter photo, in pulling back the highlights to preserve the clouds, such that they no longer feel real (that isn't a comment on accuracy, but on the feel of the colour palette).

    Skating at Somerset House

Couldn't agree more - it's rare at the minute that I actually put anything other than the 12-35, 35-100 or 7-14 on the GH3. While clearly there isn't OIS on the 7-14, the OIS on the 12-35 and 35-100 seems a step up from that on the first generation of Panny OIS lenses.

    Skating at Somerset House

I think its on until the third week in January (called "A question of colour"). It's slightly misleading in that there are 10 previously unexhibited works by Cartier Bresson and 75 "related" works by other photographers. Nonetheless, I intend to go back for a proper look.
  32. S

    Skating at Somerset House

Cheers! I can't believe how good the ISO 3200 shots are on the GH3. Also, noting the shutter speed was 1/10, it's clear to me the OIS in the 12-35 is at least the equal of the 5-axis (not angle, as I managed to type somewhere to my shame yesterday) IBIS of the E-M5.

Some initial thoughts on the Oly 17mm F1.8

Yes, the 35mm equivalent is good as a walk around lens, offering flexibility for street, candids, landscape or cityscape photography. Personally I think the 17 and the 45 would be a great combination. You might want a wider lens eventually (perhaps the 12 or 7-14) but the 17 and the 45 would be...

    prime for indoor children pics

Are you sure the PL 25 is out of budget? I picked up a used one via eBay for about 60% of list. I can't speak to flash because I generally don't use it unless it is for portraits. It would be a bit of a hack for general used taking pictures of kids. As to a preference for pancakes, I think...

    prime for indoor children pics

For taking pictures of kids and family in low light I would probably pick one of: 1) PL 25mm F1.4 (excellent results, particularly in lower light, lovely bokeh, decent AF) <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sgoldswo/8195067234/" title="PB160114 by sgoldswo, on Flickr">"800" height="600"...

    GH-3..... my impressions

You always get killed for the throwaway statements:smile:, but... I do beg to differ. I find a touch more sharpness in the output of the GH3 compared to the E-M5.
