Showcase Olympus F.Zuiko 32mm f1.7 (refitted from Pen EED)

Thank you gnarlydog for posting all this info, great work! I am very interested in taking a 32mm 1.7 lens from a Pen D3, since it has more aperture blades. Was it hard to remove the lens assembly from the camera (or the secondary project of removing the original helicoid)? I am handy enough...

    New low budget camera

You can shop around on EBay for an Olympus E-PM2 for your price range (though likely without lens.) It has a significantly better sensor than some of the other cameras mentioned here, and is a great compact Micro 4/3 body IMO.

    EM-5 beginning to fall apart

The other cosmetic flaw that happens to some is the metal cover of the adjustment dial falls off (underlying dial is still present and works.) If you lose yours, I found this 3-D printed part that can be ordered: E-M5 Control Dial by syclark on Shapeways Luckily most of these issues seem to be...

    Olympus M. Zuiko 40-150 f/4-5.6 R, black, $45 shipped

Yeah, the description actually makes it clear that this is the 4/3 version, and not Micro 4/3. I sent a message to the seller to clarify to them that it should be 'Zuiko', not 'M.Zuiko'. It is a good deal though, if you are looking for the 4/3 lens.

Adapted lenses that are SHARP wide open, and at least f/2

Another lens that I have had nice wide-open results with is the Olympus Pen F 38mm f/1.8. It is sharp and contrasty in the center (IMO), though corners and edges are not wide open. It may not quite belong in this thread about sharpness, but is a great combination of image quality, reasonable...

Adapted lenses that are SHARP wide open, and at least f/2

The Contax Carl Zeiss 50mm f/1.7 T* Planar (Contax/Yashica mount) immediately comes to my mind as a legacy lens that is sharp wide-open (and certainly at f/2!) The going market price reflects that however. There is a simple C/Y to Canon EF adapter available, I'm sure this lens would do...

    P15 1.7 or O12-40 2.8 pro for travel

Personally, I would go with the Panasonic 15mm (or whichever M43 prime focal length you would shoot the most) and basic kit lens combo. That gives you the benefit of the fast prime with versatility of the zoom when you need it, for less money. But it just depends on you.

Panasonic Kills GM & GF Lines

I think the Panasonic bodies AF more confidently in low light than the Fuji's for sure, and probably most budget DSLR's. Olympus AF is better than Fuji in most situations as well, although it falls down in continuous AF. I have no experience with the current Sony bodies, I know the new A6300 is...

Help Needed with OM-D EM-5 - Cracked Screen, camera acting strange

Thanks for all the info everyone on using the E-M5 without an LCD. I bought an E-M5 with broken LCD on EBay for an incredible price, and can use it for the time being with EVF only. It was not very intuitive to have to hold down the view button, then spin the wheel at the same time. I will...

New GX85 vs. my E-M10, first impressions and discoveries

It sounds like you were experiencing overexposure on other shots as well, but I would expect the camera to overexpose on this photo of the duck, due to the largely dark areas of the pond water and the bright highlights on the duck (although I don't know what you set exposure compensation at.)...

    GX80/85 Reviews

I think the only real question about the camera was how well the IBIS worked, and that was more or less settled in the sample videos when the camera was announced. Otherwise, you are getting much of the guts and features of the G7 (which is a lot!), in a GX7 style body with GX7 viewfinder, and...

    P35-100 f2.8 - will i be happy ?

You are right- the MTF chart of the 55-200 is closer to the 45-150 than the 35-100. I never thought to compare, as those 2 lenses are in totally different price classes themselves. I'm currently on a 45-175mm which does not seem as good optically as the 45-150 (although I like the non-extending...

    P35-100 f2.8 - will i be happy ?

After years of justifying the budget telephotos as great values (they are, but are still underwhelming when you start finding yourself shooting a lot of telephoto), I have resigned myself to looking for this lens. I need something sharp across majority/all of its zoom range for sports. The...

    25mm 1.7 and 42.5mm 1.7

I feel it is a good lens with no terrible weak points, so images are generally pleasing from wide open. It doesn't seem as sharp as the more expensive 25mm lenses, but that's reasonable depending on the price you get it for ($100 is a steal, $200 is a good value, for $300 I would rather shop for...

    Panasonic Lumix G 20mm F1.7 II or Olympus 25mm F1.8

The nice thing about the 20mm (and fast 35mm-ish lenses) is that you can have background separation, but still get a bit more environment in your photos. So a fast normal lens (like Panasonic 25mm f/1.4) might be better or might not, depending on your style.

G7 First impressions of a wonderful camera

Off the top of my head, you have to use the setting where you press shutter button to start, and press to stop (as opposed to having the camera record only while the shutter button is pressed down.) Give that a try- 4K photo mode actually shoots video, but provides a playback interface for...

There is also a Panasonic offer for a 3-year warranty on a lot of their bodies and lenses- Triple Your Warranty Bonus Offer As someone mentioned above, the GX7 has way better build quality and feel than the G7. I am guessing they are being conservative with their estimates now, because they're not getting up-to-date reliable info from Panasonic. Is u43 falling too far behind in sensor development?

You are 100% right, definitely you want the best camera available at any particular moment, and of course tech will continue to advance in both image quality and shooting functionality. I do think we've passed the point of adequacy a long time ago, by 'adequacy' I mean taking into account how we...

Is u43 falling too far behind in sensor development?

There will be occasional hiccups in product cycle depending on when a new Sony sensor is available, vs. new M43 body development. But overall, Sony's sensor business has done a good job supplying many different camera makers, and I'm sure this will continue. The Sony sensor that went into the...

    Sigma 60mm 2.8 vs Olympus 45mm 1.8

Since you already have a kit zoom, compare the field of view of the 60mm with the 14-42mm at 42mm...forgetting aperture for a moment, do you consider the 42mm FOV to be good indoors for your purposes? If so, the Oly 45mm is a great lens. For baby photos (vs. full-sized adults), I think the 45...

Panasonic 25mm f1.7 for $99 at Adorama and B&H with Free Shipping (expired)

The thing is, they have no idea and are at the mercy of Panasonic. B&H, Adorama, Amazon...they all can only rely on what the supplier is telling them. This is a sort of unusual scenario, a pre-launch sale at over 50% off.

    panasonic 25mm f/1.7 or panasonic 20mm f/1.7 (pancake)?

The best way to compare focal lengths is the % difference between 2 focal lengths, rather than the numerical difference. 45mm to 50mm? Not that different. 14mm to 20m, or 20mm to 25mm? Pretty significant difference!

G7 First impressions of a wonderful camera

Another fascinating tidbit that will be of interest to very few people here- In 4K Photo mode, the camera will record 4K movies with sound (at 30FPS), combined with the ability to choose different aspect ratios. So this is a great way to shoot with an anamorphic adapter- you can choose 4:3 or...

    Panasonic Lumix G70 versus G7 4K Video

Unfortunately, you are pretty much stuck with PAL and should try to return the camera if that's a problem. The PAL/NTSC is not switchable. Some older Panasonics could be software-hacked to enable this and other changes, but we are talking GH2/G3 era, there's been no success hacking later models.

DFD enables the came to determine/predict whether an out-of-focus subject is back or front focused similar to phase-detection AF, so it should allow the camera to more smoothly keep a moving subject in focus. If you have a G7, I'd just wait for the Panasonic 25mm especially since you got the $99 price. Panasonic 25mm f/1.7 vs Olympus 25mm f/1.8 Samples inside

The exposure level is slightly different in some of the shots- compare the shed and the fence in the f/4 shots for example. Which is a better choice for this video project - GX7 or EM5mkII?

I would recommend the GX7 because of this, and because the OP already has some familiarity with the GX7.
