    Buh Bye For Now

Just wanted to stop by and say it's been a real pleasure hanging out with ya'll for the last 5 or so years. I am not too sorry to report I've moved on to a Fuji X-T1 and their wonderful lenses for now. I've knocked around in the DSLR realm for 15 years and came upon the wonderful world of light...

Olympus OM-D E-M1 mkI Image Thread

Some GREAT stuff there Chris. Aren't we glad the camera is "freeze proof"

    E-M1 with 12-40 went bananas.

Yeah I'm 90% certain it was YOU and not the camera that caused that. If in doubt I'd do a complete system reset and start over. And I also DON"T recommend changing lenses with it powered up.

    CPL for my 12-40?

I suppose I might have gone a bit overboard, but I went for the B+W MRC Kasemann Thin CP. The Kasemann are the finest foils available for the circular polarizers, the thin is a "just in case" of the wide vignetting issues, MRC for the extra coatings and protection and B+W because I trust them...

EM1 rear wheel not always responding

Before you come to a final conclusion, do a COMPLETE SYSTEM RESET on the camera and see if it still does what you say is the problem. Quite often, just like any computer, a reset sets things right again. Give it a try.

Difference between Olympus 75-300mm series one and the series two

Well Having had BOTH I can feel comfortable saying that with the copies I have used, the newer version is less prone to flair and CA as well as being crisper wide open at the 300mm extension. I compared them side by side and this was my results. also I prefer the newer body style. It isn't bowed...

    Olympus 75-300 on Safari?

I've had and used BOTH the Panny 100-300 as well as the original Mk1 version of the 75-300 M Zuiko. I had more issues trying to get a sharp hand held shot with the Panny. Far more issues than with the Oly version. At 300mm extension the copies I had favored the Oly at the long end, not to...

    E-PL1 image thread

The irony is that once the PL1 came out, it was far more to do with the person behind the lens than the camera itself. The PL1 is an amazing photographic tool. If used right it can virtually equal anything out there bar no price. A real testament to a fine camera and lens combo.

    Anyone Here Using a Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 on a EM1?

I'm happy to report that the replacement lens has NONE of the issues of the first one. NO hunting in half way decent light and contrast. Pretty much locks focus in the blink of an eye as the others do. It only pumps if I place it in very poor light indoors with no real light source and no...

    Anyone Here Using a Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 on a EM1?

This isn't about being spoiled. The lens simply did NOT render a crisp image wide open at infinity or it's longest focal range (100mm). This is NOT acceptable. I believe I got a defective lens to be sure because NOBODY has the right to market a lens that in perfectly good daylight pumps...

    Anyone Here Using a Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 on a EM1?

I have a question for ya. The brown truck got here later then expected and I've yet had the opportunity to try the newly arrived Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 lens. I got this on the premise not only of it's ideal focal range but all the high praise it's been getting for its sharpness. So all I've had...

    Do you use screen protector?

To me the best screen protectors ever have been those by MicroSolutions offered on Amazon. They have a multi layer of protection and are absolutely 100% transparent having NO impact on either the touch action of the screen nor what you're looking at. They are oleophobic (thwart finger prints) as...

    Migrating to E-M1 from FF

Much of what you've said is right on. I've been evaluating a Canon 6D full frame camera this last week directly against my EM1/12-40. I would agree with the noise being approximately a 1.5 to 2 stop difference in RAW. However in Jpeg a few different things happen. For one thing the Jpeg...

    Olympus 12-40 Ouch!

I'm certain that I've owned at least 30 lenses of all levels from pro to amateur since 1997 and have not had ONE lens have ONE issue. But then unlike those here I never dropped one, nor abused one. Guess they need to put that on the paperwork with every lens sold regardless of manufacturer...

    Olympus 12-40 Ouch!

Personally I think this entire issue has been blown WAY beyond reality. If you are going to slam this lens the way you have, then perhaps the Canon L lens line and Nikon pro lens line should be as well. There are untold numbers of people with dropped and slammed and broken 24-70 f2.8 lenses and...

I've got the BEST suggestion of ALL. DON'T DROP YOU'RE FRIGGEN EQUIPMENT..........PERIOD. End of story. If you do ALL bets are off. Stop whining about breakage do to your mistakes. It is NOT a fault of the equipment as it is NOT designed to be dropped or mishandled in the first place. These...

    E-PL1 image thread

Oh what the heck I'll play. My primary move into the Mft cameras was with a PL1. I had pro Nikon gear at the time, but when they started gathering dust I had to take a long and hard look at my realities. Here's several from a trip I took and left the big guns at home and just took the PL1 along...

Steve Huff Photo: E-M1 is Camera of the Year.

I must admit I was surprised he chose the EM1, not because it doesn't deserve it, but because of his typical shooting desires. He has always tended to go with exotic or more expensive gear. On balance however he ain't wrong :-)

Olympus OM-D E-M1 mkI Image Thread

Love that ocean sunset shot. If you could have done multiple blended exposures I would have preferred to seem more light shed on the water and bring the sun's exposure down. Just a thought. otherwise love that shot indeed. I've used GND filters in the past for these types of shots, but now I...

I'm liking this camera more each day. Freedom from flash, Higher ISO's with careless abandon. No tripod needed. What more do you need? Here's my "Little Roo" bunny just checking me out checking him out. Handheld, ISO2000, 1/10th sec handheld no flash f2.8 with the 12-40.

EM-1 IBIS clunk noise at start up and REALLY LOUD at shut down.

gr8Shot is absolutely correct. I had mine on "short" but when I put it back to "Normal" now there is nearly NO thud or movement. When I turn the camera off there is a very brief set of the IBIS and that is it. Before it went longer. Not to mention the shutter response now seems quite instant...

    OMD EM1 update now here

The update took me about 4 minutes. I used the Olympus Updater software to do it. I was surprised nothing showed up on the LCD so it worried me, but on the computer screen it just said update was in progress and to not shut the power on the camera off. So I had patience and waited. Eventually an...

    Fl600r owners: Beware!

I may not use my 600 a LOT but all I can say is your usage of it and mine must be completely different. On mine the ONLY way that lock is coming off is if I INTENTIONALLY switch it OFF. The way I use my EM1 with that attached does NOT afford the opportunity for the mistake you are referring to...

    Cameralabs recommended mirrorless cameras

I'm surprised Gordon didn't get all gushy over the A7 series. I guess in the end he realized the shear usable nature of the EM1. It just seems to have it all in such a nice small package. And the build has to impress anyone using it. So he's not far off.

Are people really buying E-M1 to add Oly's SHG/HG FT lenses to their system?

I for one have absolutely NO interest in the 4/3rd lenses. If I wanted lenses that size I would go back to DSLR bodies as well. I'm sticking with all native mft lenses at this point. They will only get better from here on out.

    I still treasure my e-pl1

The PL1 was the 1st mft camera I experimented with after taking back a P1. I found the picture quality overall remarkably sharp and detailed with the color winning me over. I at the time, had a Nikon D300 and D7000 with pro glass. I ended up divesting most of my DSLR stuff when the EM5 was...

    EM1 hotshoe cover...lost yours yet?

Never lost the EM5's and this one hasn't come lose either. I guess I must be doing something right. I don't stuff it in a bag in such a way the top rubs (at least not with the type of bag I'm using with side supports). It's actually pretty tight on the EM1 compared to the EM5 so I'm not the...

    JPEG revisited

As soon as Lightroom comes out with their final version 5 variant that supports the EM1 correctly, I'll go back to shooting all ORF's. The Olympus 12-40/2.8 Doesn't Like UV Filter!

Just picked up a 12-40 for my EM1. I slapped a B+W MRC Nano coated UV on it as soon as I unwrapped it. Checked it out. Shooting directly into light sources and candles and such. OM-D E-M1 Shipping Status

Utahlasvegas..........if you're going to be there a while with the camera setup make sure you head up to Marin County across the Golden Gate Bridge and shoot a bit at the Muir Woods. If you have the time a drive down Hwy 1 to Santa Cruz would also be good for some amazing shooting.

    E-M5 owners upgrading to E-M1

For me I initially though I would just stick with the EM5. However once I had a chance to see and hold the EM1 I realized indeed it was the camera I wanted the EM5 to be. With the grip and 12-40 f2.8 on it it reminds me more of a small version of the Pro Canon and Nikon bodies I'd had in the...

EM5 or EM1 vs D600 at a dark wedding reception.

I used to shoot weddings professionally. Typically had a pro Canon or Nikon body with a couple of f2.8 lenses and a f1.4 for the portrait work. Kai reviews the EM1

I would also say my favorite reviewer is Blunty. He is not only humerus to a degree but adds useful and sensible criticism along the way. First and foremost the main thing here as far as B&H is concerned, directly, is they are above and beyond in the ethical department. The Olympus 12-40/2.8 Doesn't Like UV Filter!

In the past 14 years of my digital usage, I had always been a B+W MRC filter on all lens kind of guy. For the last few systems however I've gone lens hood only. I don't take my camera to a beach so perhaps that helps. I keep the lens hood in place and when walking around with the camera it...
