Continuous Autofocus; Oly 75mm f/1.8 versus the Sigma 60mm f/2.8

I seem to have taken up residence in your head. That certainly wasn't my intention. The OP asked about both buying into a complete other system or an EM1, so my suggestion was on topic. And really, all I did was ask for sources that contradicted my information. I even said "I'd be interested in...

Continuous Autofocus; Oly 75mm f/1.8 versus the Sigma 60mm f/2.8

Heres the link to a head to head shoot out that is the basis of my saying DFD is the fastest. If anybody has actual comparison data that shows that this is no longer valid, please post it. I would hate to keep giving bad advice. In the meantime, if you love your camera and it meets your needs...

    GX85 Early Sample Photos

This is a pretty seductive camera. I get the feeling that if Panasonic continues to evolve the GX7/GX85 they will have a modern classic. Especially if they continue to pack it full of the latest tech. Does it take the same battery as my GX7? I actually like a seperate charger...

Continuous Autofocus; Oly 75mm f/1.8 versus the Sigma 60mm f/2.8

Ok, thank you for clarifying that your assessment is based on hearsay and anecdotal opinions. I've seen these threads digress into brand loyalty pissing contests, which I'm sure we both agree are pretty useless. I'm glad you are enjoying your EM1 and finding its performance pleasing.

    Sharp pocketable compact?

The GR is pretty spectacular, and snap focus makes it a truly singular camera. No other camera does what it does. If you can work with 28mm, there is no better one handed (or two handed) pocketable camera out there.

Continuous Autofocus; Oly 75mm f/1.8 versus the Sigma 60mm f/2.8

Ok, that's fine. So if there are no tests or evidence that show the EM-1 is as fast as a DFD Panasonic, on what basis are you making the claim that it is? Are you sure you want to give a shopper advice based on assumptions or wishful thinking?
  7. G

Continuous Autofocus; Oly 75mm f/1.8 versus the Sigma 60mm f/2.8

If you have links of tests that support that, please link them. It's news to me. My understanding is that DFD speeds up Panasonic and dealing with sensor shift slows Olympus, but I'd be interested in seeing any tests that show those results. All the tests I've seen show that DFD Panasonics are...

Continuous Autofocus; Oly 75mm f/1.8 versus the Sigma 60mm f/2.8

A Panasonic body with DFD and a DFD capable lens will be your fastest m43 option. From what I've read, that will perform as well as an entry level DSLR (but not as well as a high end DSLR)

    Just bought an RX100 IV

I thought the ZS100 had a 1" sensor. I haven't looked thst closely at that market (so I might be missing the big story), and I would probably choose Panasonic if they and Sony have closely featured products (no knock on Sony, just non-logical brand preference), but I didn't think the ZS was...

    panasonic 15mm f1.7 vs olympus 17mm f1.8

That's not my experience. They are 2 of my favorite lenses, so I've shot a lot with both. 15mm has more contrast and pop, more pleasing bokeh, and faster focusing. 20 has better corners and handles flare and CA much better. And of course, the 15 is a true wide, and the 20 is a normal.

Olympus Pro lens sizes - my opinion

It's kind of hard to do when they are working on fast zooms with a bigger range than the Panny alternatives or 1.2 primes. Those lenses will be bigger than most m43 alternatives.

How important is owning an ultrawide angle lens?

The long end of that lens is (for me) a pretty standard focal length. I shot 35mm fl as my main lens for a long time. I like 28mm (14 in m43) as well, but don't often shoot wider than that. I really like the wide angle distortions and perspective, but the wider you go the harder it is to work...

    panasonic 15mm f1.7 vs olympus 17mm f1.8

The 20 is a good starter lens thats a flexible focal length and fast enough for indoors. In time you can add the inexpensive P 14/2.5 wide angle and O 45/1.8 portrait/short tele and have a good budget 3 prime set
  23. G

    panasonic 15mm f1.7 vs olympus 17mm f1.8

The 20 is workable for street, but the 15 or 17 are a lot easier to use in that situation since both have switches on the lens for AF/MF, both focus faster, and the 20 doesn't do C-AF. You should check the 20mm image thread, I recently posted some action shots of BMX riders at the local skate...

    panasonic 15mm f1.7 vs olympus 17mm f1.8

I wouldn't say that. Personally, I think the 15mm is better all around if the focal length difference isn't an issue. Neither are good for close portraits, both are fine for environmental portraits. As far as street, the 15mm has an AF/MF switch and the 17mm has clutch focus, so they are both...

    GX80/85 Reviews

I'll try and help you cross it off... the lack of tilting EVF means that the way I would use this camera, my cheek would move the focus point while looking through the EVF (touch focus while using the EVF is a true "killer feature" once you have used it. The tilt EVF lets me use it much easier)...

    panasonic 15mm f1.7 vs olympus 17mm f1.8

wjiang is right about the focal length, its not as close as you would think with just a 2mm difference in focal length. The 15 is a noticeably wider lens with more of the dynamic wide angle distortions (which I really like, but you need to remain conscious of it to create good photos). Optically...

Apple Photos vs Adobe Lightroom, the eternal dilemma.

As far as I know they still haven't implemented a way to sell updates via the App store. It understandable that developers will leave the App store, and if I have...

    Gx8 or wait for GH5?

The GH5 will have 6k video and 6k photo capture which yields 18 MP still frames, which is a pretty dramatic resolution improvement over the GX8s 8 MP photo capture from 4k. Its also likely that the GH5 will also have either a new 4/3 sensor or possibly an APS-C sensor used as a multi aspect...

GX-8 Owner Review from a former GX-7 user

GX-8 Owner Review from a former GX-7 user

Definitely. I haven't gotten my hands on the GX8 to compare it to my GX7 but its clearly bigger. I think that ergonomics/size tradeoffs are tough. FWIW, for my hands, the GH3/4 has the best ergonomics of any m43 camera, but its bigger than I want to carry around. If the GX7 hit the sweet spot...

GX-8 Owner Review from a former GX-7 user

This post kind of confuses me. Are you saying the GX8 is too small? While its hard to compare the size of different shaped objects, The GX8 is shorter than the EM1 in overall height, and the grip is slightly shorter. Is it the 3 mm extra width that crosses the "too big" line? And you praise the...
