what photography related item did you buy this week?

My G9 is happy with my new (well, used) Sigma 120-300 f2.8 OS (not Sport), attached with a Viltrox M2 (EF-MFT) speedbooster, making it roughly a 85-213 f2 lens! AF works (not speedy, but it works...) and the pictures look really good so far - haven't pixelpeeped too much yet though.

How is that Sigma working out for you? Did you get canon/nikon mount and a lens booster?

    Panasonic 10-25mm f1.7 Announced

Yes, so I doubt this is "hard" stops, more of a visual indicator where in the zoom range you are. Of course, this is just a mockup, so could just be a screw up/assumption by people who created it.

    Panasonic 10-25mm f1.7 Announced

Interesting. Not out of the realm of possibility then, but the site posting this isn't exactly a top notch photo site, so I think I'll be highly skeptical unless I hear it from more reputable sources.

    Panasonic 10-25mm f1.7 Announced

"Unlike most zoom lenses that will shoot at every focal length within the zoom range, the 10-25mm lens is the equivalent of five prime lenses in one. By using only five focal lengths within that zoom range, Panasonic says the lens is able to maintain maximum image quality. The zoom will cover...

    Panasonic 10-25mm f1.7 Announced

But your lenses weren't designed to only go to certain positions. While I wouldn't care much either way, I don't see why Panasonic would do it, or how doing it could yield better quality.

    Panasonic 10-25mm f1.7 Announced

My bet is on that it is a misunderstanding as well. I really don't see how they can optimize certain focal lengths. The only way to change zoom is to move elements back and forth (there is no room to swap out certain elements), so how they can make something be much sharper at 20mm than 21mm...

    Panasonic 10-25mm f1.7 Announced

Odd article claiming you can only select one of 5 "prime-positions". Not buying this at all, but feel free to discuss ;) Panasonic 10-25mm f/1.7, the brightest zoom lens yet, is like five primes in one "Unlike most zoom lenses that will shoot at every focal length within the zoom range, the...

Dreams of a Panny FF system

Yes, I was not clear in my message. I didn't mean physically speaking, just sensor size :) It can probably be close to the same size, somewhat depending on what kind of cooling and battery they want in there.

Dreams of a Panny FF system

I wish it would be a supersized G9 with slightly better video specs, and very high MP count and an adapter to allow m43 lenses with some level of crop to work. I suspect it will be rather a lower MP count Video centric GH5S on steroids unfortunately.

Dreams of a Panny FF system

I don't think the first set of lenses will be that fast, whether it is cheaper, or expensive ones. Most cheaper ones will probably be starting around f4 mark, most expensive ones, except 50 and 85 will probably be 2.8.

PL 12mm f1.4 PL 25mm f1.4 PL 42.5mm f1.2 For good luck: Oly 8mm fisheye I can't make with just primes though; Pana35-100 2.8, Pana 100-300 (considering switching this out wiht either PL 100-400 or upcoming PL 50-200)
  18. T

Yes, one of those O25 versus PL25 threads yet again.

As TNArgs has said, the higher pricing is reasonable simply due to the lens being faster. If you don't need that speed for DoF or light gathering, or you don't see any apparent advantages in rendering, go for the cheaper, smaller oly or new p25. The quibbles about corner sharpness is stupid in...

DJI announces M43 drone camera system.

My understanding is that the gimbal has been balanced with those lenses and stored in firmware. They will likely add more as long as the lens is not too heavy or sticks out too much. Might be wrong though..

DJI announces M43 drone camera system.

hmmm... the inspire drone with the x5r camera is a cool $4500 unfortunately, but I am sure it is great. The camera is north of $2k, but shoots 4k RAW and comes with 512GB SSD, so may even have other applications..

    Zhongyi/Mitakon 25mm F0.95 Pancake lens!

a somewhat fast lens in the range of 7mm to 12mm would be much more interesting to me as manual focusing would be much easier, and the wider lenses tend to be rather slow..
  22. T

Yes, one of those O25 versus PL25 threads yet again.

never ending discussion I suppose.. I have the pl25 and really like it. As noted by others it is not super-small, it does rattle a bit, and wide open in some situation chromatic abberation is quite pronounced. Still like the images I get with it a lot, and every little bit of speed helps when...

    Pick one lens brand

Voigtlander would probably have more votes if it said pick your favorite lens. MF only, few will pick I as favorite brand as it excludes lenses that tend to be used more often. I picked Panasonic since their cameras got me into m43 due to their video capabilities. Then Panasonic lenses become...

Who is thinking of buying a GX8

I didn't see the question until now, but thanks for the good answers to Rob's question. To elaborate just a bit on what it would look like, if you use that setting for video, it will look very washed out and flat straight out of the camera. Similar to RAW, it helps with the amount of detail you...

Who is thinking of buying a GX8

My plan with going for m43 was to have a small body (started with gf2) and a more capable larger body(still my gh3). I did somehow throw a kink in there by buying the LX100 which promptly relegated my GF2 to the "never use" pile. I'm so happy with that camera for most occasions, I am not sure I...

Zooms vs Primes - a circular journey

I'm in both camps :) From 9-15 or so I use the oly 9-18. From 17-42.5 only primes. 45-300 is zoom lenses again. Oh and for good measure, my lx100 is often now taking care of the wide end.

70-200 opinion piece on dpreview perpetuating the equivalence rubbish

Having the Nocticron, and knowing it is "2.4 equivalent", I honestly can't imagine shooting on a Full Frame that gives a narrower DoF than that. Even with the this, you can easily have the nose in focus while the eyes are out of focus... I enjoy the fact that I can compensate for the smaller...

Does Panasonic know about problems with POWER OIS video stabilization

I can confirm that at least on some copies it does not entirely get rid of jitter, but it is now (barely) acceptable. Before, it was horrific. Unfortunately, as far as I find, the EM-5MK2 is still not an alternative to Panasonic cameras when it comes to video quality. It may technically have...

    Pana 100-300 rough zoom action??

I think many on this forum show that we don't buy into m43 because it is a low-cost system, rather a smaller-size system :)

Sooo....too early to get some user-feedback on the Lx100?

I'm not sure this is what you mean, but my LX100 has been set up so that when I half press during recording, it tries to autofocus. I don't like continous auto focus so I basically autofocus on a subject when I hit record, then if something changes in the frame, I half press to change focus. It...

    Back to m4/3 from NEX

    Not what I expected

While true, I think T N Args & edmsnap, explain what OP is missing. Regardless of whether it is a full frame lens or a native m43 lens, you need to double the number to get FF equivalent focal length, so 50 & 60 turns into 100 & 120 respectively.

    Reduce blown out highlights?

I'm sure the em-10 has metering setting where you set spot, center weighted or average, or something similar. Depending on the scene you need to adjust this for the best result, and use exposure compensation in addition if needed. How the metering is set has a huge impact. It won't affect the...

The acid test - who's going to upgrade to the E-M5 ii ?

I'll wait for the EM-1 mk2. If it has 4K with usable bitrate, that would be a strong contender to the GH4 on account of it's IBIS. Wouldn't mind if say they get a better sensor in there with a bit higher resolution too....

PhotoAcute software to boost effective resolution - first test

Did a quick test and it worked really well in terms of resolution with the LX100. Unfortunately in my quick test, I used original raw's and it threw off the color (likely not supported yet, so for now I would probably have to convert to another format before running it). The results are...

All Intra at 77MBIT seems too low. It did not work well with 72MBIT for GH3. GH4 is running at 200MBIT. From what I have seen moire and rolling shutter isn't really kept well under control either. (That said GH3/GH4 is not fantastic in that department either). To get headphone input you need...
