I've had no issues with the connectors coming loose, but i haven't put anything that heavy on them, either.

Will I have to leave u43?

I have no problems shooting from the waist with any of my "flippy screen" cameras. Some people just seem to want to manufacture problems where there aren't any.

    Why did you choose 4/3

I wasn't really looking for a new system, but I ran across a review of the GH2 at Luminous Landscape which was very positive, especially about the ergonomics of the camera and the way the design worked for photographers, rather than engineers or electronics geeks. I had been unhappy with the...

    GX8 4k picture

The camera is capable of far more than you'll see from the 45-200. That lens won't do the camera justice.

So... what do you think about the GX8 size?

I was a bit worried it was going to be too big, but it doesn't feel that way in the hand at all. The GX-7 actually feels a little bit cramped now (and I really like the GX7), compared to the 8. I've only had it a few days, but so far the only thing I wish it had was a built-in flash, for those...

    Panasonic Lumix G7 Swivel Screen

Yep, seems to be normal. Don't abuse it, and it shouldn't be a problem. I have a couple of much older bodies, and the swivel screen has never caused any problem.

Were you using the electronic (silent mode) shutter? Issues with fluorescent lights are typical with e-shutters.

G7 First impressions of a wonderful camera

The 100-300 is just has incredibly slow auto focus. It's truly obsolete at this time. It's nice that Panasonic has announced the 100-400, but it's likely to cost triple what the 100-300 does. I'd settle for a modernized 100-300 with today's AF and OIS tech.

    GX7 Single Point AF question

Thanks everyone. I thought there was a way to turn off touch focus, but for whatever reason I couldn't find it in the menus. Or in the manual, which I looked at online.

    GX7 Single Point AF question

So, I haven't really used my GX7 in a while.... Have shot much more with my GH3. Anyway, I now have the GX7 with me on a trip, and have run into an annoyance I can't seem to solve. I'm using single point af, and every time something (like my nose) touches the touch screen, the AF point moves...

After the wait, are you happy with the EPL-7 specs?

But an upward, or sideways (like Panasonic offers) flipping screen would still allow the style of selfie shots you describe, while not precluding putting the camera on a platform or tripod. Oly's design limits the options, while not offering anything extra.

    Endless endless cropping -- why?

I hope you at least understand that not everyone shares your point of view. Just because a long lens doesn't fit your personal vision doesn't mean it isn't the perfect lens for someone else.
  21. M

    Endless endless cropping -- why?

Most people, especially when they're starting out in photography, tend to concentrate on the middle of the frame, and ignore the edges. Good, experienced photographers realize you need to focus (no pun intended) on the edges of the frame just as much as the center. When you concentrate only on...

After the wait, are you happy with the EPL-7 specs?

I think it's a reasonable entry-level camera in terms of specs, layout, etc. But the downward tilting screen is just stupid. Stupid beyond belief, IMHO. Didn't Olympus' engineers even consider you might want to set the camera on a table to take a selfie, or group photo? It's like they designed...

After the wait, are you happy with the EPL-7 specs?

Not sure what you mean by "real IBIS," but while your statement is true, the GX7 is barely larger and includes an EVF in the bargain.

GH4 Owners - Pro Grade Photo and Video Comment Pls

AlanU, pretty much every review I've seen has the stills quality of the EM-1 and GH4 even. And I believe, but am not 100% sure, that Oly's PDAF only really works with the older 4/3rds lenses, not m43 lenses. If better AF with m43 lenses is important, check this out to be sure. And GH3 stills...

GH4 Owners - Pro Grade Photo and Video Comment Pls

Alanu, you keep making judgements about the AF of the GH4 without having ever used one, based on the AF of the GH3. The two are VERY different in terms of continuous AF. The GH4's DFD AF is truly a revolution. Is it the equal of a 1D or D4? No, of course not. But it is the equal of any...

    Huelight Profiles

I use the his GH3 profile. The differences between it and the LR profile are subtle, but it's definitely better. I need to buy a profile for the GX7, I just keep forgetting to do so.

    GX7 replacement?

I think the manufacturers are slowing the update cycle, for a couple of reasons. The most important is that frequent updates cost a LOT of money. Not only in the cost of R&D and manufacturing of the new model, but in revenue lost when they have to keep dropping the prices of the older model...

    Show "Motorcycles"

I used to have an NT650, and I used to have a set of those bags, though not on the NT. Had a lot of fun on the little NT, though my butt would never have tolerated a long trip on it.

    Show "Motorcycles"

Actually, modern Harleys really are using some cutting edge technology. They just hide it very well. The LiveWire will never appeal to the traditional Harley rider, but it may bring a new type of rider to the brand, which is something Harley needs to do in the long run.

    Photographers Just Don't Understand.

And what makes you think that's a key consideration for everyone? All of my lenses that really need IS have OIS, and I have no intention of purchasing a 4/3 lens. How well does 4K video work on your EM-1? How effective is the E-M1 at pulling high-quality stills out of a video stream? I...

    4:3 - 16:9 - 3:2 - 1:1

I shoot in 4:3, because that uses all the pixels available. I crop to fit the subject matter, not some arbitrary "standard" imposed by paper sizes or TV screens. It makes no sense to me to leave extraneous background in the image, or crop out important subject matter, just to fit on a TV screen...

    What Panasonic camera is best?

OP, you don't say you want an interchangeable lens camera. Is that what you want? Or do you just want a Panasonic? What will you mostly use the camera for? You mention video, but what kind of subjects? Virtually every digital camera shoots video, but quality can vary widely. Do you need...

    A New GH4 Review

Hogwash. Every objective test shows little difference between ois and Oly's IBIS. With long lenses, OIS frequently tests out better. As for cost, Panasonic's lenses are generally priced competitively with similar Olympus lenses. Your biases are showing, as you continue to try to dredge up...

    A New GH4 Review

No. Completely wrong, as a couple of minutes with Google would have told you. No matter what you think, the GH4 body is magnesium alloy, just like a Canon 1D or Nikon D4. http://photorumors.com/2014/02/06/panasonic-gh4-camera-with-4k-video-announcement-tomorrow-first-pictures-now-available/

    Canon G1X Mk II vs.Panny GX7

I wouldn't pay that much money for a camera that large without an eye level viewfinder. I know that doesn't matter to everyone, but I don't like taking a picture in broad daylight and only later finding out what I actually took a picture of.

Why I'm switching to all Panasonic bodies

Did you deliberately ignore my statement that you can tweak the colors? The images you link to prove nothing except that one set of settings is different than another. Geesh.

You didn't say anything (previously) about not wanting to use auto-switching mode. That works fine for me.

Another interesting test. GH4 v Canon 1DX Stills

nstelemark: I never made any comparison of output. I'm talking ruggedness. GFF, I'm not talking about mass, either. As well built as the GH3/4 and EM-1 are, I stand by my statement that when you've got bodies bouncing off the ground, or 3 or 4 bodies and lenses bouncing against each other...

The end of onion-ring bokeh? Panasonic beats the curse of aspheric lenses!

Call me a curmudgeon, but..... While I don't doubt the effect described is real, I have somehow managed to shoot lenses with aspherical lens elements for at least a couple of decades without noticing this as a problem in real world images. We seem to have reached an era where the in-focus parts...
