    Samyang/Rokinon 135mm f/2.0 Lens - Would make for a fun adapted lens!

Exactly; or some old M42, OM, Contax, Rokkor, etc lens may have a desirable rendering, bokeh or color reproduction. Still I'm not dismissing Samyang, will have to wait and see some reviews I think.

    Samyang/Rokinon 135mm f/2.0 Lens - Would make for a fun adapted lens!

Thinking about it. Thinking hard... If this is something like the 85mm f/1.4 it will be rather soft wide open, but still very flattering for portrait work. I could buy the Canon version, and use it on both m43 as a long telephoto and the Fujis with focal reducer as a "normal equivalent"...

    Which lens for portraits?

Wait, what kind of portraits? As TetonTom correctly argues, you can use both lenses depending on the type of shooting, environment, etc. In any case, I agree that posing, light and setup are equaly, if not much more important. Wish you success!

    Best adapted prime macro lens

I think, realistically, is you already have a FT->m43 adapter, the 35mm f/3.5 would be a great choice, since it's great optically, small and fairly inexpensive. Another option which I haven't tested is either something like a Raynox DCR-250 or electronics enabled macro rings, in which case...

    MySet confusion

I have a suggestion: why doesn't Olympus make a replacement top cover for the PASM dial, with positions marked for MySets? A thin metal sheet one, which could be probably fitted non-permanently? Then they could go on and sell it for $99 or something.

Personally, it is the feature most DSLR pundits praise, the optical viewfinder, that I'm not going back to, even with a gun to my head.

Sigma to make Micro Four thirds camera?

Sigma just announced the next generation of DP cameras with the Foveon sensor: http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/updated-sigma-announced-the-new-sigma-dp-quattro They seem quite interesting, esp. if claims about improvements over the former Merrills get to be true. They claim better ISO...

Who's using flash triggers and what are you using?

This has been my experience too; with Yongnuo 560ii, 460ii, Cactus flash, several Nikon and Nissin flashes . I just press the top button, also do the same every time I bring down the power on the flashes.

    Had a pleasant surprise today

Thank you all guys! As I said, it was a delightful surprise for me too. And, to make things even more exciting, hear this I just learned (since we exchanged contacts with one of the photographers): After we parted ways the three other guys went on for their photowalk. During which they...

My E-M5 & My A7 (OR A Tale of Two Voigtlanders)

Assuming critical focus is the same in both photos, I highly prefer the first one. Generally, I don't buy the "FF offers the ultimate DOF control" statement, which leads to a lot of useless extra-narrow DOF photos we see around all the time. Personally, not one of my favorite photographers...

DxO and E-M1 lenses: less sharpness than the E-M5?

DxO recently posted their "best lenses" roundup for the E-M1. Checking those, a somewhat disturbing pattern emerged. Although some lenses seem to excibit the same "sharpness" (the way they define it) as the E-M5, in some important cases the E-M5/lens combination seems sharper. Examples are...

Sigma to make Micro Four thirds camera?

If Sigma comes up with a MFT camera with the same image quality as the recent DPm's, and they try to adress some of the more annoying issues these cameras have (first on the list, PP software support!), and IF it is in the same ballpark as the compacts, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. It will be a...

Sorry for taking that long to see the answers to this thread! Since I started the thread, I have seen at least two rebranded version of this flash (and the 180Ws version), namely Lencarta in the UK and Genesis in Poland. The latter is much less expensive than the others.

    EM1 vs DF vs A7

Absolutely no need to apologize, no offense taken at all. The argument about SOOC JPEGs is valid and such improvements are sometimes underated. As always, we are viewing things through our own personal filters. Having seen my work (and many thanks for the nice comments!) I'd...

    EM1 vs DF vs A7

Thank you for the answer. I have read Thein's articles the day they were published. I personally can't say the results show a marked IQ improvement; at least not far from what you can get with "equal" PP manipulation of the samples in LR. Don't get me wrong: since I'll be most probably buying...

    EM1 vs DF vs A7

Is the above an observation based on ownership of both cameras? And, if so, are you refering to JPEGs or RAW? In any case, could you provide samples supporting your statement about an "one full stop" improvement? Because, from what I've seen/read thus far, image quality is only marginally better...

    EM1 vs DF vs A7

The DF is just an overpriced DSLR dressed in a shell aimed at awakening feelings of nostalgia to middle-aged Nikon fans. The E-M1 is not an upgrade to the E-M5, in the same sense that, e.g., the D4 is not an upgrade to the D700. It goes a different direction in providing pro features in a...

Most of you have pretty much covered it, here is my summary list: Body form factor: Start with the E-M1, remove the idiotic "scene" modes on the dial, replace with Mysets. :43: size sensor (and mount); I wouldn't care less for FF bragging rights. But implement with a Foveon type sensor...

Has anyone thought of moving to full frame?

If and when Olympus or Sony (or even anybody else) comes out with what is almost exactly the E-M1 (plus a second SD card slot) with a FF sensor I will be tempted. Most probably will use it 50-50 with the E-M1. Until then, I can't justify owning either a heavy and expensive beast of a camera or...

    DxO Mark review the E-M1

Actually... it's a bit perplexing. I've seen a number of high ISO RAW comparisons between the E-M1 and the E-M5, and the former looks way better in every respect. Which makes me wonder if the newer processor "cooks" the RAW data in a different manner, resulting in a final image with less noise...

To take this a step further, Nikon actually has a crop mode in their D7100 which is virtually equivalent to a :43: mode. I haven't researched the issue match, but, from what I read it's both the lens and the adapter and it certainly depends on the specific mount. Also, I think you'll never...

Another vote for the Cactus v5 here. I'm looking forward to their future v6 (currently under testing) and flash with built in receiver. The v6 will remotely control flash settings. Since they'll be backwards compatible with the v5 I'm probably getting them also.

On the subject of using adapted lenses with the Sonys, there is already a number of cautionary remarks by people such as Robert Cicala, Thom Hogan, Ming Thein and others. I.e. side by side resolution may suffer quite a bit due to even very slight planar missalignment. This will prove...

    m43 sensor evolution

Theoretically speaking (I don't have the E-M1 to evaluate these claims), Oly's latest processor is capable of diminishing the effects of diffraction, actually optimizing for the specific lens fitted. But, personally speaking, in some cases, I'd prefer a 12 or 14Mp sensor with ISO 50 capability...

Unfortunately camerasize doesn't provide this lens in their database, because I wanted to show that it scales almost perfectly (on the E-M1 or GH3) with a FF Canon DSLR + Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6. It also is almost perfectly equivalent in DOF; in fact it's potentially and practically faster. A...

    m43 sensor evolution

Sure, the 16Mp APS-C sensor used in the D7000, K-5, Sony NEX, etc is more than 3 years old. The :43: one used in the OM-D and GH3 is roughly 2 years old. I would expect, by now, :43: sensors to be somewhat closer to APS-C for DR and color output; I'd say closer to 13.5 stops DR and some more...

I am on the same boat actually. I would very much like to have native ISO 80 or 50 output, with extended DR and color reproduction, esp. when shooting with flash. But also because I live in one of the sunniest countries in the World; indeed there are numerous occassions I can't shoot with an...

Seriously, you have to calm down. The "stakes" we are talking about are Sony's chances of having success with this system in general, not whether a personal buying decision shall prove succesful or not. This is highly subjective. For my part, I've tried to avoid any sentimentalism about the...

    m43 sensor evolution

I completely understand this; my question was more about the technical issues about DR (and, secondary to this, color depth) and the disparities observed between :43: and APS-C. Differences in ISO are rather scalar to the sensor size. OTOH, DR and CD are not; indeed several smaller sensors are...
