    Viltrox EF-M1 Canon EF/EF-S to M43 Adapter Experiences/Results?

The 50mm STM is noisy even on a Canon body. It's not one of my favorite lenses and I rarely use it. On a Canon body, it focuses smoothly. On the adapter, mine focuses in tiny increments, rather than in a smooth, continuous motion. It's the only lens that behaves that way on the adapter. My...

    Viltrox EF-M1 Canon EF/EF-S to M43 Adapter Experiences/Results?

I haven’t posted much on the forum in several years, but I’ve been checking back regularly and saw this thread. I sold my E-M1 several years ago and kind of missed it, so I bought a used one last week. I also picked up the Viltrox EF-M1 adapter to make use of my Canon lenses on the Olympus. I...

    Heading to Niagara Falls-Recommendations

If you like lighthouses, Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse is located in the Golden Hill State Park, midway between Rochester and Niagara Falls. It's an easy stop going to or from Rochester. It's a pretty lighthouse. The Fort Niagara Lighthouse is located more or less in the parking lot of Fort...

    Best hand holdable 400mm option

I can personally and whole heartedly recommend this lens with the E-M1. This is the combination I used exclusively for birds for a couple of years until I bought a 7D Mark II. The lens is relatively light, very sharp and easy to handle. It focuses easily in manual, although I used the...

I couldn't agree more. I encourage everyone to spend a little time revisiting some of the early pages of this thread. There are some great photos there. The GF1 is a great little camera. Most of my photos taken when I started this thread were using the humble little GF1 with either the 14-45...

Anyone still using older GF series?

I honest don't know what I'll get. I sold my E-M1 a year or so ago and replaced it with a Canon 7D Mark II. There was no one fault with the E-M1, it was just a series of niggling little things that kept me from feeling 100% confident and comfortable with it. My a7R is the same way, but even...

Anyone still using older GF series?

That's the plan. KEH gets them occasionally, but I'll have to check some other places, too. The images this little camera produces are so rich and have so much character, especially the black and whites. The autofocus is slow and ISO 400 is noisy, but I can live with those limitations for the...

Anyone still using older GF series?

I still have my GF1, EVF and 14-45mm, and I won't let go of it. I love that little camera. Mine is doing well with the exception of what seems to be an occasional shutter issue. It's infrequent, but concerning, so I use it sparingly hoping to make it last. It mainly comes out for use with my...

    50-200SWD, EC-14 + E-M1 = unreliable autofocus?

I had the same combination. The lens by itself gave excellent results, but my results with the converter were dismal. I know the combination is capable of great results, I've seen examples of it, but I couldn't even get close. The maddening part is that the results weren't consistent, front...

    selective sharpening with Capture One?

For what it's worth, I've never seen an orange/yellow tint on any of my photos. My E-M1 tends to go magenta-blue, my a7R blue, and my GF1 a bit cyan. My 5D Mark II was almost neutral, with no prominent color cast. Of all these cameras, photos from the E-M1 are the hardest to color correct. I...

I have one that looks just like that. Mine is branded with Rainbow Imaging's name, but I've seen them under at least several other names. I bought it 5 or 6 years ago for my GF1, and it has been very reliable and easy on batteries. When I bought my E-M1, I was able to just buy a new...

    12-40 weather sealing

Olympus describes their weather sealing as "dust-proof" and "splash-proof". I interpret that to mean a light rain shower or mildly dusty conditions. In the words of Roger Cicala from Lens Rentals: "You can assume whatever you like, but when you send your lens in for repair, 'weather sealed'...

Trains! All aboard! Post your railroad photos

I don't wish to turn this into a discussion thread, as there are plenty of those already. My comment was only in regards to the lens's ability to focus quickly and accurately on what I was aiming at, nothing more. If the lens hunts and fails to lock on, depth of field isn't going to save the...

Trains! All aboard! Post your railroad photos

Depth of field only helps so much, it can't work miracles. If the subject isn't in focus, depth of field isn't going to save it. The area was a narrow cut through tall trees, so the track was in the shade. Shooting wide open was dictated by the shutter speed needed.

I can't see how it would matter if the extension tube is before or after the adapter, but I've never tried it. Honestly, I've never needed 1:1. Even though I have the extension tube, I've only ever experimented with it a bit. I found that much magnification a pain to use without a tripod...
