My lens snapped right off the body. Thoughts on if it's fixable. :(

BTW, I'd recommend a good lens hood for some protection. I'm partial to the extendible rubber versions rather than the Oly/Panasonic plastic versions - they are compact and protect even when the hood is in its retracted/wide angle position. That and a half-case for the camera body protected my...

    Jupiter-11 with Kiev-10 / Kiev-15 Mount

Note that the Kiev 10/15 lenses need more than just a mount adapter; they need an aperture control, not only a mount adapter. The link I posted above shows how to achieve this. The 135/4 is a beautiful Sonnar optics (Zeiss) lens, as is the Jupiter-9 85mm f2.
  12. R

    Jupiter-11 with Kiev-10 / Kiev-15 Mount

The m39 adapter you mention is for using M39 lenses on Kiev 10/15 bodies - the opposite of what you need. Here's a link to an Instructable that shows several options for you - for me, the Canon FD - M43 adapter looks like the easiest that will also control aperture. Getting things under control...

Panasonic 100-300mm not long enough, now what?

I would guess that by extending the reach of the lens, you may be stretching the capabilities of the AF. I read a review of the Sigma 60mm f2.8 lens that talked about a focus rate of 7 out of 10 photos...as depth of field gets shorter through bigger aperture and/or longer focal length, focus...

Panasonic 100-300mm not long enough, now what?

Well, it is the "micro" 4/3 forum :-) I don't think that a smudge would make a difference unless the lens or adapter were very dirty, but a minor change in focus or minor camera shake will make a big difference, especially as the focal length increases. I'm suggesting focus because the...

Panasonic 100-300mm not long enough, now what?

The close focus distance is appx 5 feet without converter, so about 8.5' with converter. I shot a cereal box label from about 15' for my rough test, and the small text, e.g. the loops in the % sign, was clearer with the adapter and blocked in without. My test was very rough, since I just held...

Panasonic 100-300mm not long enough, now what?

Hmmm...I'm not sure what happened, but I just tested my 100-300 @ 100mm and f4, and a crop with TCON-17 is definitely clearer than crop without. The TCON-17 is optically identical to the B-300. One thing I noted is that close focus distance increases with the teleconverter. Is it possible that...

what photography related item did you buy this week?

    Sigma 60mm f2.8 $184 at B&H

Thanks. I had tried it in isolation in an unusually dim arena, thinking it might be a good substitute for the 75. Perhaps an unfair test, since this arena was 2 stops worse than the local hockey arenas here. I did lots of post-processing on the photos and then cursed and put the lens in a drawer...

    Sigma 60mm f2.8 $184 at B&H

Anyone noticed that the Sigma 60 is slower to focus than the Oly 45 or 75 lenses? I had a quick look at one, and wondered if my first impression was right or not. I haven't seen any tests discussing this.

    Anyone into Teleconverters?

I know it's an older post, but I wanted to point out that you've identified the barrier that many have in working with front-mounter teleconverters. Usually, some level of experimentation is needed to achieve best IQ. In particular, even if a particular lens and tele are good matches, you then...

    Anyone into Teleconverters?

I recall reading about successful teleconverter stacking using the TCON17 plus the superb TCON14b....but that's a big rig! I wouldn't stack the 17 with the A200....the latter is not as sharp and I think its flaws would be magnified. I've stayed on the cautious side and not done any stacking. My...

    E-PM2 + pancakes or large-sensor compact (RX100, LX8 etc.)

I use a PM2 with 14 or 20mm lenses as a compact camera on occasion when I feel confident that a single angle of view plus a minimum of cropping will be sufficient, but for the most part, I bring along an RX100. The first version Mk1 works best for me, since I prefer the slimmer profile. I had...

    Any reason to keep O 14-42mm II R when I have the O 12-50mm?

The 14-42 is much smaller for convenient travel - I'd hang onto it if you need that. With the current generation of Olympus bodies PL5/PM2, it also offers better IQ than high end P&Ss like Sony RX100 and Panasonic LX7, even after their faster lenses are taken into account.

    Refurbished Olympus 75mm f/1.8's for $695

I traded for the 75 a couple of months ago; it's now permanently mounted to Amin's old E-PM2. This lens is worth the full price - maybe more - it's that special. If you want to get some idea of the lens before buying, mount a ~$80 Olympus TCON-17 on the 45/1.8 with 4 spacers (step-up rings...

    'THAT' Grip..My opinion....UPDATE..!

I used my PM1 last summer for kids' soccer with a 100-300. Amazing combination. The balance was fine when holding the lens in the left hand and grip in the right hand. I used a Flipbac Camera Grip G3 and a tight hand-strap to improve the ergonomics, and it made all the difference. I recently...

Need helping trimming down my gear.

~100% at 1/250th sounds very impressive! I used to shoot a Canon 70-200 L at 2.8 on a 40D, at 1600 and 1/250th, but 1/250 was too slow to catch action like a shot or a goalie catching a puck, so I had to go to 3200 and 1/500th. I am infinitely happier with the PM2 and 75, and the extra depth of...

Need helping trimming down my gear.

If you're shooting hockey in neighborhood arenas, you'll need to shoot fast - last weekend, I shot two games at ISO1600, 1/500 sec, f2. I've been using the 75/1.8 with PM2, and cropping as needed. The biggest obstacle is reduced contrast and distortion from the Plexiglas - many arenas now have...

    Best 300mm+ under $300?

It's a great little lens; you can always compare your proce to eBay completed auctions to do a reality check on pricing. I'd suggest that you post in the NEX forum - I think that NEX users tend to use more manual focus lenses.
