Would you be interested in Sony's low-cost FF?

I saw that this last week which whetted my appetite. I have the Oly 9-18 which I like but would prefer one of the 7-14 lenses if they supported filters. I have a set of gel filters but they are not convenient for backpacking. The 12 or 15 on a FF body would give me some very nice options. I...

Would you be interested in Sony's low-cost FF?

My interest would be to get a an ultra-wide prime or two for architectural and landscape photography since there is a lack of ultra-wides for m43. A used A7 or a cheap new FF if introduced with a Voightlander 15 or 12 would be attractive as a supplement to my m43 setup.

I made sure I was on the other side of the guardrail and did not hike down. I wish they would clear out more of the brush. It was late morning between 11 and noon for Cullasaja and between 10 and 11 for Dry Falls. I cheat a little on the pics - I take the raw file in Lightroom and make two...

Robin Wong reviews Olympus 7-14 f2.8 Pro

I used to use square gel filters when I shot medium and large format but when I returned to more serious photography AK (after kids) I decided to downsize to MFT and using the larger gels are cumbersome on the small cameras. I have some ND gels I have used on occasion but find them a pain when...

Robin Wong reviews Olympus 7-14 f2.8 Pro

I would have loved this lens or the Panny 7-14 but the lack of filters is a deal killer so I will stay with my 9-18 Oly until they come out with a super wide prime. I wish they had added the ability to do drop-in filters in the rear. That or give us 5 ISO in the camera ;)

A compact bag for some small primes

I use the Mirrorless Mover 10 when I go light - I can pack in my GX1 with the 45/1.8 attached and can squeeze in the 20/1.7 and 14/2.5 pancakes. If you just carry lenses you can obviously put in a little more. This shows the MM5, MM10, MM20 and MM30. I own the last three myself and use the...

To whoever mentioned Enfuse: THANK YOU!

I have been using Lightroom with HDR Efex Pro 2 - however I do it with a twist. The last year instead of using 3-5 different photos I have been taking one photo and making virtual copies (all RAW) +/- 1-2 EV and combining them. That has allowed me to get more life-like HDR and it also...

How to troll on photo forums (humor)

It took me many years to realize it was not the gear that makes a good photographer. I kept looking for that medium format camera that would me my photos look professional and they never really looked much better than my Pentax SLR shots. Less grain was about the only benefit. I even tried a...

One lens to rule them all

I am always afraid in a situation like this something will happen and I suddenly have a lot of free time ;) It depends on what you like to shoot. Buildings and landscapes? I would bring the 12. Street? I would likely user 20 or 25. Portraits? Obviously the 45.

Is Your Camera Big or Small?

"Small" all the way with two GX1 bodies. I always figured I would likely go Fuji or Sony A7 before I would go large. If I am carrying the larger camera I may as well take advantage of the larger sensor.

How Many of Your Camera Options Do You Use?

For me anything after 1960 is "modern" ;) My first camera had no light meter and I learned to guess exposures - surprising how good one can get after a while. I could be attracted to a simpler camera with far fewer menu options - and more dials. That is one attraction of the Panny LX100 (and...

How Many of Your Camera Options Do You Use?

I was thinking about how I use my GX1 camera and all the whiz-bang features and realized I pretty much shoot the same way I did 30 years ago. I am aperture priority 100% and only use the physical dials to change ISO and over/under exposure. I only use the menu to change the timer and format...

Does anyone here sell prints at Art shows/Festivals?

I think the smaller print sales are driven by the larger framed display prints - people see one they like but don't want to spend the money and then see a smaller less expensive one in a browse bin. I have picked up a few that way myself. ;)

Does anyone here sell prints at Art shows/Festivals?

You never know until you try ;) Another venue to sell photos is your library. In our county every branch has a rotating display of local artists and some photogs will display for one month at this library and then one month at another and will often get some sales from those displays. My...

Mirrorless Mover 20 for two bodies ?

I have the whole series, the MM-10, MM-20 and MM-30 and like all of them. My only complaint is the strap is small and recommend replacing it or adding a pad. I think the materials are better than described in the review but not as good in more expensive bags. I take these on day hikes and have...

    m4/3s not doing as badly...

Videography and photography are not necessarily that different going forward. I find the prospect of being able to pull stills out of 4K and higher video intriguing. Not needed for portraiture and landscapes but a dream for sports, news and wildlife.

70-200 opinion piece on dpreview perpetuating the equivalence rubbish

One can use an Instamatic and be a professional. One can use a 4x5 and be an amateur (like I was). Professionalism is not defined by the equipment but the individual. That said larger sensors will lead to better technical quality 99% of the time much the same as in film. But the...

    Life Cycle Cost of Systems

A lot of this depends on whether you are printing or not. If the images are only on computer monitors then there is less benefit to better ISO performance. But I am printing up to 16x20 where you need everything to work at maximum performance in m43.

    Most used lens

"Unknown" is the lens leader far and away for me thanks to adapted lenses. ;) Mine are mostly spread across the spectrum but if I factor in time things change. I did a lot of adapted lenses early on and the only Panny lenses I had for a while were the 14-45 and 45-200. I have stopped using...

    Life Cycle Cost of Systems

This I would strongly disagree with - I have worked in several industries on both the military and civilian side and life-cycle costs are applicable everywhere. I spend a lot of time budgeting and 5 years is just the start ;) Too many people buy things without asking what is the real price -...

    Life Cycle Cost of Systems

I cannot get out of the back of my mind the potential life cycle costs of all of these new systems, especially lenses. It is a given that to get better ISO performance you will have to upgrade the body every few years - the sensor has replaced film as a consumable. How long will these tiny...

Sony is getting more ridiculous every year or is it just me?

I can see several uses of this for myself. Not by hanging the lens on the phone but by keeping it off. 1. Wildlife - self-explanatory 2. Event photography - I often hang my camera on a monopod and hold it above my head using a timer with a wide lens. So much better if I can have the screen...

    Olympus 9-18mm worth the money?

The 9-18 is the only zoom I use. I have the 14-45 and 45-175 but almost never use them. I love the 9-18 and use it a lot when I am hiking. If they had some good ultra-wide angle primes I might replace it but the size and versatility can't be beat. And as the bodies improve with better high...
