    EM-1iii or EM-1x

Honestly, right now the EM1x is a no brainer. I am finally itching to upgrade my original EM1's and it's looking like in the next few months I will have at least 1 EM1x, really want a pair of them.

    300mm f4 Pro hood damage

I would just send it in. The fall could have done something to a weathering seal that could cost you a lot more money down the road. I use the hood as my protection for the front element because I do not put protection filters on my lenses.

I Need to Learn to Stay Off of KEH - if you like manual focus lenses don't read this thread, it will cause huge GAS

Damn, was hoping you knew about the 250/2. I didn't know they made this lens either and now I am super curious about it, but not at that price. I have talked about getting a 400/2.8 so I could use a speed booster for a 280mm f2.0 lens. This is basically that without using a speed booster. I...

Does the thought of various dangers keep you from shooting in the city?

A time so long ago it feels like a different life I was an EMT working one of the worse areas of Houston. Having seen way to many guys walking who shouldn't because some drug or another I know my 357 will at least knock them down so I can get away. You are right about everything else. It's...

Every couple of months I get on KEH to see what is available and today I discovered 3 rare gems. @macro Danny, what do you know about the Olympus 250mm f2.0 OM mount or Olympus 180mm f2.0 OM mount and how do they compare to the Olympus 350mm f2.8 OM mount (I know you really like this lens)? Does the thought of various dangers keep you from shooting in the city?

You are welcome and I do plan on enjoying while I am here. I am working on planning a 7-10 day backpacking/packrafting trip for 2021 in Gates of the Arctic National Park. Park is super remote and has little information about it, most rivers/peaks/lakes are un-named and there are no roads into...

Does the thought of various dangers keep you from shooting in the city?

Not really sure. I just got up here at the beginning of November, took a promotion with my company to move up here. Will probably be here until I take another promotion to go someplace else, at least a year but maybe 2 or 5. Actually I love the snow, lived in Seattle for 13 years and grew up...

Does the thought of various dangers keep you from shooting in the city?

I own a small arsenal. My carry gun is the Ruger LCR because it's small, light, stupid simple and has the best DAO trigger pull I have ever used. Those large magazine pop guns others like to carry are for people who don't know how to shoot. If I need more than 5 shots I am in a situation that...

Does the thought of various dangers keep you from shooting in the city?

To follow up my first comment. I have actually run into way scarier people out in the woods while photographing wildlife than out night shooting in downtown Houston. Granted the chances of running into a bad a person is higher in the city due to sheer numbers, I feel the chance of something...

Review Mystery Ranch Pintler: The Perfect Back Country Photography Backpack?

UPDATE So in the literature they say the compression straps that go over the pack are optional, they are removable. I have found that the top part of the pack will sag over without the compression straps in place. Which can cause weight at the top of the pack to pull backwards, very annoying...

Thanks. In that case they make sense, I just don't see the need for hunting or backpacking. I should mention that I am also a hunter and have no problems with compression straps in many years of hunting. Strange they didn't keep them on the military bags.

Was in a hurry to get to work yesterday and forgot to mention the buckles. After one use I am still not a fan of them. I was only wearing thin gloves so operating them was only slightly difficult but that combined with the not use to having to do that aspect was frustrating. After years of...

The weather yesterday was not great, very cloudy with snow/rain/frozen mix in the air. So I decided landscape photos of the glacier I had planned to hike to would not be that great. So I switched gears and decided to hike up to Rainbow Peak in search of Dahl Sheep or Mountain Goats, which ever...

    Olympus 300mm f4 - What am I doing wrong?

Thanks, I believe there are some videos you can watch on his site. Pretty sure that is how I figured it out initially, plus a lot of trial and error to really fine tune processes. I do my lenses at 50 feet, feel that is about perfect for my typical shooting. Now that I am in Alaska I may...

G85 For Astro? & Lens Recommendations

Your shutter speed is based on focal length. So the longer the focal length the faster your shutter has to be to freeze the stars. With my Bower 7.5mm f3.5 I can do almost 30 seconds before the stars start trailing. So you want as wide as you can get and as fast as you can get. My lens of...
