    optyczne reviews the Olympus 25/1.8

I've sold a few landscape photos where edge to edge sharpness is part of the aesthetic of the image. If you only take pictures of individual objects, corner sharpness may not be critical but for a lot of uses it is.

    optyczne reviews the Olympus 25/1.8

Lenstip measurements also raise my eyebrows sometimes. For example the 12-40mm review, the lens is sharpest at 12mm F2.8 then degrades even stepping down. Certainly a very unusual performance

    optyczne reviews the Olympus 25/1.8

Interesting to note that at peak sharpness, the PL25 is noticeably sharper across the frame. It is of ourse noticeably much larger as well with hood. You can see a 9-10 lpmm in mtf50 easily.

It's great how sharp it is for how small it is.

Oly 12-40 does Wrist Watch Macros

I wrote an article I can link later. As long as you lens can do a bit of close focus, it mostly comes down to flash modifiers, polarizes, background, and cleaning the object.

Lens for Ebay Pics: Why Nothing Fast in 26-40mm Range?

Shallow dof shots for things I'm buying is annoying and can be misleading. Just get a cheap bounce flash and crank up the aperture.

Is the DOF difference between M4/3 and full-frame really 2 stops?

IIRC, if you account for aspect ratio, it's somewhere around 1.83. You know what's more interesting though? Go through your Lightroom catalog and look at your images that you rated 4 or higher. For me, only 3-5% of my shots are shallow DoF that are what I consider "Keepers". Almost all of my...

E-P5 firmware Upgrade for Shutter Shock is Coming according to 43Rumors.

There's sensor then there's ADC components and image controller. I guess it will depend on the capabilities of that chipset. While I hope it does come out, I wouldn't hold my breath.

E-P5 firmware Upgrade for Shutter Shock is Coming according to 43Rumors.

Efcs comes from the sensor. I would be wary of this rumor. Unless the ep5 has a newer sensor than the em5, epl5 and epm2, I don't think it's possible. Of course maybe that original sony sensor is capable of it but I have strong doubts.

At F4, it's especially noticeable in the field map how much sharper the 15mm is over the 17mm 1.8.

Oly 12-40 does Wrist Watch Macros

I found the 12-40 on my E-M1 and a generic bounce flash with radio control to be competent for this use. You can't do extreme dial close ups but I have separate lenses for that. I apologize for the dust, weird reflections, and some depth of field problems. It's extremely challenging taking...

Disappointed with Oly 9-18 lens. RANT

If you look at SLRGEAR's graphs, the 9-18 is a decent lens stopped down a stop but nothing really close to the 7-14. That about reflects the performance of the 3 copies I've had. Of course a single 7-14 takes the same amount of volume of three 9-18.

Why I can't convince myself to get the P7-14 and stick with the O9-18 + Samyang fisheye

I think it's getting a little ridiculous people are so insistent that their lens is good enough for them so should be good enough for everyone. Not everyone has the same needs as you do. I've tried 3 copies, I found all of them decent but lacking in several factors. OF COURSE you can take great...

Why I can't convince myself to get the P7-14 and stick with the O9-18 + Samyang fisheye

Depends entirely on how big you're printing and how critical you are in your prints. The M.Zuiko 9-18 never sharpens up in some corners. I'm sure 90% of my friends couldn't tell the difference between a 50mm equiv shot I took on 8.5x11 between a decent superzoom and my E-M1 + PL25. I can easily...

Why I can't convince myself to get the P7-14 and stick with the O9-18 + Samyang fisheye

You mean 14-24. I would but I don't want to break my back or deal with the supporting eqpt you need and I don't want to deal with all the other uneven sharpness problems on the d800. Folks, the 9-18 is a good lens and you can take great pictures with it. Fact is, it's not as good as the 7-14...

Why I can't convince myself to get the P7-14 and stick with the O9-18 + Samyang fisheye

If I were standing in front of a breathtaking vista on a once in a lifetime trip to Patagonia, I'd want the 7-14 and the right body, not the 9-18. Sure the 9-18 takes good photos but when it counts, I want the 7-14. I can't wait for the Oly version, it's going to be awesome.

Why I can't convince myself to get the P7-14 and stick with the O9-18 + Samyang fisheye

I found the slrgear sharpness chart the most accurate of the oly 9-18mm's capabilities. I wish it was better because it's small and takes filters but it really doesn't measure up.
  32. F

Why I can't convince myself to get the P7-14 and stick with the O9-18 + Samyang fisheye

I've owned three 9-18 so I would disagree, there is a very large difference in sharpness, micro contrast, and flare.
  33. F

Why I can't convince myself to get the P7-14 and stick with the O9-18 + Samyang fisheye

The Oly 9-18 is remarkably small for it's coverage. It's also a very mediocre lens optically. But it's okay. The P 7-14 is one of the best UWA lenses available on any system... well as long as you're not using an Olympus body.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 mkI Image Thread

I knew the Lenstip MTF measurements from the Olympus 12-40 beat most primes but I'm shocked how sharp this thing is. Stopping down doesn't gain much improvement depending on where on the frame you're looking at. Any vignetting is part of post.
  36. F

Are pictures from the 12-40mm and 12-35mm noticeably different?

On MTF charts, the Oly 12-40 beats all comers on the short end at it's maximum aperture including all the current MFT primes. On the long end, it's still very good but much weaker. Also it doesn't have the ugly purple barrel of the Panasonic.

    E-P5 Shutter Shock Reduction Idea

Personally, I haven't found AS to really help with some kinds of lenses like the Panny 12-32. I think the material might also be a determining factor rather than just weight. Same reason why a sheet of aluminum isn't as effective as a sheet of dry wall in reducing noise.

    E-P5 Shutter Shock Reduction Idea

I've noticed with my mini tripod attached my shutter shock is substantially reduced while I'm holding the camera. I think what's happening is that the body resonance frequency is changing due to physical attachment. This is why I've also noticed a slight reduction in shutter shock when I have my...

TTL Flash and Live View on E-M1

Question, if I get a TTL flash, will Live View reflect the estimated exposure? So right now, when I use manual flash and shoot in M, I get a very dim view without Live View Boost. I was wondering if I were to get a TTL flash and shoot in A mode, what happens? I will always be either...
