Travel to Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Zion

I had both the Pana 7-14 and Oly 9-18 and ended up preferring the Olympus. Smaller, lighter, less expensive, takes filters and has a longer reach. Great UWA for hiking and national parks. The 7-14 has slightly better optical performance, but the 9-18 holds its own.

Shots of Blue Hen Falls in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio

A few shots from a recent cross-country trip. We stopped at Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio for a night, and I was able to shoot some of the falls and trails there. Blue Hen Falls was definitely one of the more unique waterfalls to visit, so I thought I would share a couple of images. All...

Great shots! Love seeing more UW photos here. I'm shooting with the E-PL1 and 9-18mm underwater, but I don't have a dome port yet. Do you usually shoot without a strobe? Ever use red filters to help with color correction?

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! I'm excited this was selected as a feature page! Yep, I'm still using my GF1! Great little camera, had it since release nearly 5 years ago. I'm not sure how I've resisted GAS for so long . I've wanted to upgrade bodies to the 16MP sensor for a...

Very cool! It seemed like Marrakesh and Essaouira were quite popular tourist spots, and not too difficult to reach from Europe. The markets in Marrakesh were straight out of Indiana Jones. Conversely, it was a long drive through the mountains to get to the desert (6+ hrs each way), but the night...

Last month I traveled to Morocco with my wife and some grad school classmates of mine. Through the course of a week, we drove over 1000 miles, touring all around the countryside. We visited the cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakesh, and Essaouira, as well as driving out into the edge of the...

Shark photos published in the UK (E-PL1)

Hah, well yes they do sensationalize a bit, don't they? The media agency that contacted me came up with the "shark whisperer" tagline. But it's kind of descriptive of how he is able to make the sharks completely comatose in his hands. The nose rub is actually what he's doing though (not...

Shark photos published in the UK (E-PL1)

Back in March, my wife and I did some shark diving in Grand Bahamas, and I brought along my new E-PL1 underwater setup. My images were noticed by a media agency in the UK and I worked with them to syndicate some articles around. It's pretty exciting for me, as the first time I've been published...

    First GX7 pictures

I wonder if Panasonic's IBIS works alongside their electronic shutter? That could help prevent some of the distortion that can occur with that feature. If so, I think Panasonic's elimination of shutter-shock combined with a 2-axis IBIS could even give Olympus' 5-axis IBIS a run for it's money.

GX7 full specs and more pictures

According to Imaging Resource, no 20mm kit or black version of the GX7 in the US. We get silver + 14-42mm or body only. That's a disappointing choice, I would have expected at least the black version to come to the US.

Sigma 19&30mm or sigma 19&60mm for wedding

I brought my Olympus 45mm to a friend's wedding the other weekend and came away with a ton of great shots. I think having a long focal length, "portrait" lens is important at weddings, since you'll be shooting a lot of people. The Sigma 60mm fits this bill a lot better than the 30mm, but I agree...

Sigma 60mm Now Available for Pre-Order for $239 at B&H

I think this is a great addition to the m4/3 lineup. Are there any good focal length/bokeh comparisons between the Olympus 45mm and 60mm macro? If I want to pick up a fast-ish portrait lens, I wouldn't be sure which one to get!

New 60mm f/2.8 Lens from Sigma, Plus Revised 19mm and 30mm f/2.8 Lenses

Ah good call. I just assumed since their DP3 has a macro lens.
  22. G

New 60mm f/2.8 Lens from Sigma, Plus Revised 19mm and 30mm f/2.8 Lenses

The characteristics of these lenses is mainly driven by them being designed to work with Sigma's DP series cameras. Offering them on m4/3 and NEX is simply a way to increase the volume that they can produce. I'd like faster glass too, but I think Sigma positions themselves well as a lower-cost...

Featured Forum Thread: 'Post Your Three Favorite Images of 2012'

Tough to narrow it down to just three favorites! I chose one from each of my lenses: 1. My favorite: the Matterhorn at sunset (GF1 + 45-200mm). I printed this at 20"x16" and it looks amazing: 2. Tree Canopy hiking in Northern California (GF1 + 20mm). I won a DPReview challenge with this...

You could get significant improvement from a used G3 for probably <$300. I agree with others though, lens>body for spending $$.

Wide Zoom - Your Take? Your Kit.

I picked up the 9-18mm to compliment my 20mm and 45-200mm kit. The 20mm is sharp enough to crop if necessary, and the other two zooms are great values. Covers a huge range, and is very compact!

Question about focusing (video) with 25mm 1.4

Try AFS / Auto-Focus Single mode in video. The camera will only refocus when you half-press the shutter. In a video like this, there isn't much need to refocus anyways, since movement tends to leave the subject in the same focal plane.

    Help needed with cropping (Landscape)

I agree with the other posters--the final crop, #2 works best. The balloon will naturally look like it is moving towards the light in the shot (sunlight coming from the upper-right), so it works best to leave some space for the balloon to "move" in the viewer's eye. (fantastic shot, btw)

If you could pick 1 lens for the OMD?

12-35mm f2.8. The Pana 25mm f1.4 is a close second, but it is not quite as versatile I think. Olympus' kit 12-50mm might be in third place. This is based off of their focal lengths, and not actually using any of them though! I can only dream of these lenses for now. =) If I'm allowed two...

Huelight Color Profiles for Lightroom and ACR

Nice, I used the GF1 huelight preset for a long time, and thought it was great. I think it really makes Panasonic's colors better. Looking at the E-M5 samples, I actually prefer the Olympus colors, but the difference is a lot more subtle.

    Which Lens 12mm/25mm/9-18mm???

Hey Russell, personally I think this is a no-brainer. Go for the 9-18. It covers the 12's focal length anyways. I had the 7-14 first, and decided to keep my 9-18 instead because the image quality is still very, very good. Here are some of my most popular photos taken with the 9-18...

    Panasonic 20mm ND Filter

You could also try a circular polarizing lens (CPL), which is often nice to have in bright situations for reducing reflected light and boosting contrast/saturation.

    Traveling Kit?

FD adapters are pretty inexpensive, so that would be easy to try out if you already have some glass. Although, I personally do not enjoy manual focusing without a viewfinder. It will depend on your shooting style whether you think it is worth traveling with. Agreed on the 20mm f1.7 also--best...

Pany 45-200 lens on an OMD, anyone have it?

Actually, I think it's generally the opposite--optical stabilization is touted as superior. Not all IS systems are built equally though, and the E-M5's is supposedly quite good. Contrarily, I have found the 45-200mm OIS to be rather slow to react and requires a short pause after focusing to...
