What potential new feature would make you buy the E-M1iii?

For your information, the images here are much better in detail (& not watermarked). https://photorumors.com/2020/01/31/new-leaks-olympus-e-m1-mark-iii-camera-pictures-and-updated-specifications/

    New Olympus Camera Mid February

Yes, just like the E-M1 II lost the Scene mode from the E-M1 (Mk I). A gradual move to making users 'feel grown up'. ;)

    New Olympus Camera Mid February

I don't know if that was there to start with but they updated the script to remove the typo & my comments on it too so maybe they decided to credit Photorumors then or they already did. Obviously the 12-45 lens was totally credited to photorumors.
  4. Ross the fiddler

What potential new feature would make you buy the E-M1iii?

Or for photorumors to get credit when others copy it (as 43rumors did).
  5. Ross the fiddler

    New Olympus Camera Mid February

43 rumors included the typo in it too. "The second mode Accuracy Priority (PR) uses a fine-tuned focus scan and is effective for shooting specific stars with telephotorumors lenses. "

What potential new feature would make you buy the E-M1iii?

Apart from that funny typo, it is likely a draft.

    For Australian Buyers

That's what I was thinking too. Better to take the camera as one you already own (so to speak) & in your camera bag, but if boxes are wanted then they would probably need to be flattened etc.

It's the ability to use Sync IS that has the most advantage, as Panasonic is also doing with their Dual IS. Even earlier bodies (E-M5) can use the 300 F4 lens & still correct rotational movement with the IBIS while using the lens OIS (it came with a FW update).

PL 100-400 on a om1-mkii body distance issues

Yes, with S-AF the final AF would be done with CD-AF.
  11. Ross the fiddler

PL 100-400 on a om1-mkii body distance issues

That was what the E-M1 Mk I used to be but not the Mk II as quoted from the specs (online). "when a Micro Four Thirds lens is attached, imager phase detection AF is always selected) "

After a good price on the 300mm F4 lens? This is good at DigiDirect for $2,709.80.

    New Olympus Camera Mid February

The initial tests from those that tried the cameras with the higher pixel EVF displays will tell you the issues they saw with it & why they preferred the existing one. They tested both versions. Not "marketing spin" but actual testing!
  14. Ross the fiddler

    New Olympus Camera Mid February

They tried a larger pixel EVF in the E-M1X & it didn't refresh & display nicely & why they used the one they did. I get a little tired of so many experts that believe they can design a camera & tell the manufacturers what they should have done. It's not as simple as so many want to believe.

    For Australian Buyers

I still got the best price for the Oly 7-14 f2.8 lens back on teh Oly 100 Yr Anniversary weekend sale (Camera House) so I'm glad I jumped on it then, since I wouldn't be buying anything now while fires are nearby & still burning towards us.
  16. Ross the fiddler

    For Australian Buyers

I havn't thought about the f1.2 lenses, since there needs to be a use for them & I don't really have that use for them. My last splurge was the 7-14 lens at 20% off (12th Oct sale). When weddings & fires are over then I might actually get to use that more.

    Olympus 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 IS lens

Just to be pedantic, the lens will be Sync IS compatible which is what Olympus uses, unlike Panasonic that uses Dual IS.
  18. Ross the fiddler

    Olympus 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 IS lens

Olympus was going to produce the 300mm lens without OIS but they delayed production to add OIS so the output could be better with syncing OIS & IBIS. They want their Pro lenses to produce the best of quality & are unlikely to produce something that would be criticised, like a basic 400mm prime...

    Olympus 100-400mm f/5.0-6.3 IS lens

If it's f6.3 at 400mm then I want OIS so I can utilise the Sync IS function, otherwise it would need to up the ISO or maybe used on a tripod at 400mm. Body IBIS at that focal length would not be as effective alone, especially being a lighter lens & on a lighter body. The lens you describe is...

    FYI on E-M1ii Separating Grip

That's why I was a little hesitant to touch it myself in the first place. It was only slight but perhaps I should have put it in for a warranty repair back in May, however it is glued now, & possibly slightly raised but solid. Eventually it may go in for repair in the future, at my expense...

    FYI on E-M1ii Separating Grip

I'm not going to recommend superglue (gel), but I did it anyhow.
  23. Ross the fiddler

    FYI on E-M1ii Separating Grip

Mine had been slightly lifting, so I used a little gel type superglue in that corner (shouldn't use liquid type as it is likely to run where unwanted). It's all good now. I just think double sided tape isn't enough for that area really, particularly if it gets hot a lot.

    Dead E-M5 Mark III

The lens sound could be from "Anti-Flicker"setting in the camera where it is the sound of the aperture blades frequently changing settings. It's a function of the camera setting, not the lens.

    E-M5 III - first outing

Very nice results Gary. "Times and the weather have changed" everywhere around the globe. Look at the floods in France & Italy at the moment.

Joe Edelman - It is time to hold the photo industry media accountable!

Yes, I know these circumstances exist, but it's the gullible repeating of the 'attention getting' posts of 'rumor' sites, blogs etc that do unnecessary damage that is a problem. I think back to when Samsung pulled out & I think I saw forum posts that ridiculed Samsung & treated them with disdain...

No & why I only said the 25 minutes. ;) The Q&A went on for a lot longer. I didn't have (or make) time for that either.

Joe Edelman - It is time to hold the photo industry media accountable!

Joe Edelman has some convincing advice for us all, especially in light of the damaging rumours going around regarding Olympus & their imaging division etc. Please watch the first 25 minutes. We should be more careful about rumours & especially about sharing them or treating them like facts...

Rumors (now denied): Olympus to shut down camera division in less than 8 months

You forgot to add a date for context. Remember, there was an E-7 DSLR alongside the E-M1 & it was a final decision to go with one or the other. They decided to go with the E-M1 instead, believing it would suitably serve to go with the DSLR lenses, which it did (more or less). It was from there...

Rumors (now denied): Olympus to shut down camera division in less than 8 months

Fair enough. I just get annoyed that people can come up with these sort of rumours with obvious malicious intent which can make buyers nervous & cautious, to the extent they buy a different brand camera etc. I shouldn't be surprised as politicians do it all the time.

relubed, but still stiff ... what next ?

I don't know how long these synthetic greases with Teflon has been around for, but I remember as an apprentice in a newspaper several decades ago the tradesman getting an expensive small tube of grease out to use on a worn drive shaft of a Linotype machine. I know Teflon has been around for a...

relubed, but still stiff ... what next ?

When I was looking for this type of grease it ended up being Tri-Flow Clear Synthetic Grease from Cleveland, OH. I think I bought it on ebay, but I wanted it for redoing pivot points on tripod legs etc & now I also use it for lubricating string fine adjustment screws on violin tailpieces etc...

relubed, but still stiff ... what next ?

A synthetic grease with PTFE can be made with different resistance properties. That is, it is not just a lubricating grease but also a 'damping' grease. It is useful to smooth the jerky movement in photographic equipment like lenses & tripod panorama heads etc., but maybe you needed a lighter...

When malicious rumours are generated & beat up & spread from site to site, I can't just sit back & watch it all happen without a response. That 'rumor' site that posted that 'opinion' site's opinion like it was almost fact & then others start believing & posting it too. That just shows the...

    Nikon outlines weak financial performance

Yes, Samsung had high hopes to take the camera market by storm. They really did want to be on top, but not many took them seriously as a camera & lens maker. Now Nikon on the other hand, they better pull their socks up or they'll go down the gurgle. ;)

Rumors (now denied): Olympus to shut down camera division in less than 8 months

The information he received from sources weren't as clear as it could have been & yes, there were some assumptions made from that. Obviously the High Res info was over-interpreted as was the 'new' processor. It was a 'new' processor for that line of model though. I also suspect that was helped...

Sorry, but I get quite upset that these morons take it upon themselves to spread damaging misinformation when too many gullible followers go by that misinformation & refrain from buying because of it. Does E-M5 III have any advantages over E-M1 II?

I'll stick to my E-M1 II since its ergonomics suit me, but the OLED EVF may help with my glasses, except it's the back of my glasses that gets smudges on them though & then I have to stop & clean them. :(
