Does Olympus Have a Quality Control Issue or Are These Design Flaws

But that doesn't remove user abuse from the poll. For instance there's been lots of complaints about broken mode dials and cracked screens on E-M5's, but I own two of them I bought early in their life cycle and have had no issues. In fact, I've never had to send in ANY camera in for repair...

silly question about yongnuo flashes and the em1

If you use flashes designed for Canon TTL (with the extra pins) on Olympus/Panasonic you do so at YOUR OWN RISK; you can damage the camera and or flash. You have to realize that EVEN WITH THE FLASH SWITCHED TO MANUAL MODE, there are still voltages on the TTL contacts and Canon &...

Seems that the EM5II has the same eyecup problem as the EM5I...

I think that's it, I DON'T use camera bags (I HATE THEM because they are such a waste of space with all that unnecessary padding). Instead I put my camera in a form fitting SLR case (Olympus CS3-SH), and any additional lenses in lens pouches, and that gets tossed in the backpack I use daily for...

Still say it's a USER issue...never lost an E-M5 eyecup, and I own two of them.

    Adapter ring M42 - M4/3 doesn work (OMD eM10)

That doesn't make sense, because the user is taking the same steps attaching a smart lens or a mechanical lens. Like I said, I'm operating the camera with a lens, just not a smart lens.

    Panasonic vs Olympus bodies

But the stupid thing is, if you are looking at the viewfinder, you are GUESSING to where you're pointing to...it's not like you're looking where you are going to point to. It's like looking close at a computer monitor and guessing the point on the Wacom Bamboo drawing tablet where you're going...

    Adapter ring M42 - M4/3 doesn work (OMD eM10)

Olympus cameras don't have that setting, and they don't need it!!! (Never understood why Panasonic cameras are inferior to require that setting..."Operate camera without a lens"???? I'm using a lens, just not a smart lens...of course I'm using a lens!) The manufacturer of the adapter just has...

    Panasonic vs Olympus bodies

That's stupid! If you're face is pressed against the monitor because you have your eye to the viewfinder, how can you interact with the screen...in fact, how can you even see the screen with your eye that close??? Here's the PROPER way to do it (on E-M5): Use the four arrow keys (or two...

    Panasonic vs Olympus bodies

Sure you can...have the EVF auto switch to ON, and S-AF in the Gear-A menu set to Mode 3. So when you have the camera away from your eye the touchscreen with touch focus select is enabled, and when you put the camera to your eye the camera switches to EVF, and because it's in Mode-3 the camera...

    Panasonic vs Olympus bodies

You've got to be joking! Most dSLRs are AWFUL...they've overly big, bulky, heavy...there was a time where cameras needed to big, but those days are GONE!!!!

    E-M1 overheat in bag

Except the timer might not engage if the eye sensor is always being activated, or some button being pressed by the pressure of the bag.
  13. Mikefellh

    E-M1 overheat in bag

Don't leave the camera on when you put it in the bag? I only leave a camera on if I know I'm going to be shooting in the next minute...if not it gets switched off (especially if it's going to be put away)...it only takes a fraction of a second longer to switch the camera on while you are...

    Build quality: Panasonic v Olympus

Maybe early Panasonics, but later ones are definitely made in countries OTHER than Japan, like my GH1 that's made in China!

    Panasonic vs Olympus bodies

I guess I'll post the opposite viewpoint that NEEDS to be said! I LOVE the E-M5 body...OK it could use a few tweaks like the design of the Play and FN1 buttons, and it can use a swivel screen, but I LOVE the fact it isn't a bulky, needlessly oversized camera, unlike the GH bodies (I have the...

  17. Mikefellh

    Will Olympus ever enable ...

Actually, I find the OPPOSITE annoying, menus that stay in the position you last were, even after turning the camera OFF! With Olympus I always know where the cursor is going to be, in the top menu...because of that I have button sequences memorized where my most use menu choices are like...

OMD EM 1 VS OMD EM 5 MARK 2, and a few dilemmas

Too many people toss the word "pro" about and think everyone comes up with the same definition. For instance if I said I was a pro driver, some people might thing race cars, some limousines, some taxis, some buses, and others transport/lorries. There's no one definition of a pro photographer...

Black vs Silver Body (many images)

Had to look to see if this post was three years old, since that's when this conversation originally took place with the introduction of the silver and black E-M5s took place! Nothing new is being said that wasn't said three years ago. And if you want a red ring, check out the Samyang 7.5mm...

I HATE it because the potential for the battery swelling during charging...don't know how many times I've seen a post where someone complained about a battery swelling and they can't get it in the camera. Also some third party batteries have overheated with use (because they don't have the...

    In Camera Charging

Hate the flip-out plugs, and prefer chargers with cords. The ones without cords are taking up too many outlets on the power bar...have to unplug other things to use them! Now some people have suggested using the Apple plug adapter that's on the Macbook and iPad power supplies, but they are...

Seriously, why is an articulated screen great for video?

I just was going to mention that...I use the viewfinder most of the time on the E-M5, so I wished I could flip the screen around like I did on the E-3; I always had the screen flipped around on the E-3 whenever I had it in the camera bag so the screen wouldn't be scratched.
  26. Mikefellh

Seriously, why is an articulated screen great for video?

As a STILL shooter, I missed the swivel screen I had on the E-3 when I switched to the E-M5. I like to have the monitor setup like a view camera when on a tripod, and I was able to do this with the E-3 in both portrait AND landscape orientations...the E-M5 with its tilt screen was useless in...

Lost hot shoe cover off EM5

It's only a shipping cover that's comes on just about every camera with a hotshoe (whether weaterproof or not) that EVERYONE loses at some point. It doesn't offer any weather sealing (unlike the AP2 cover just below the hotshoe which IS a weather seal).

Window in front of sensor on E-M1

I've NEVER had to clean a FourThirds sensor as long as I've used them, since 2005, since the SSWF works so well. It's only if you get something sticky like pollen on the sensor.

No one knows until the details are released!
  30. Mikefellh

Window in front of sensor on E-M1

    0. You have NEVER cleaned a sensor...EVERY sensor has multiple layers of glass in front of it. One of the layers is the "hot mirror" which blocks infrared light. Another layer (if the camera has it) is an anti-aliasing filter. Olympus also adds the SSWF filter which vibrates to shake off dust...

E-PL5 loud grinding noise on switch off

I told Olympus off for doing this, and not having some kind of message, just like a message pops up when you have the 14-42mm lens locked. On the dSLRs when you held the lens release button in you'd just lose the aperture information, but to have the screen go black without a message as to why...

E-PL5 loud grinding noise on switch off

My Oly E-3 did this, and it was the most asked questions in the forums whenever anyone bought one (although I didn't ask since I saw past posts asking about the noise). Here's an example of the noise on an E-510: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXT9Ot-KVwY

  34. Mikefellh

    New Grips for E-M5ii...

The new E-M5ii (again) requires a new grip. Why can't they produce a camera that uses the accessories that already exist? Starting with the E-300, the E-330 could have easily used the E-300's grip because they are exactly matched in size and shape, but the E-330 was designed without a grip...

Sensor shift on new E-M5ii - 40Mp images

As a pro product photography, this would only be useful for doing magazine shoots, maybe more for home design magazines...for the web most posted product images are less than 1mp because customers don't have 40mp monitors!

EM5II the best looking OMD yet?

I'm neutral over the look, although I'm concerned how that sharp edge grip would feel like...it's the feel of it that's important. But like others said there's not enough (yet) to encourage me to switch...I want the E-M1 features (PDAF, WiFi control, etc.)...I couldn't care less about that 40mp...

    E-M5 II buzz?

I'd much rather prefer the E-M1 features in an E-M5 body than this sensor shift nonsense. Would also like to see Panasonic GH4's ability to extract photos from video in camera. Right now it's a "wait and see" rather than having baited breath!

    Why not? Custom PASM dial

What "bassman" is saying is to replace the PASM mode dial with just a shutter speed control and an aperture control (like old school cameras), and add an "A" to each dial to switch to automatic control...this is the way the Panasonic DMC-L1 and DMCLX100 work, and "accomplishes the same thing" as...

    Why not? Custom PASM dial

I remember having no mode dial on the E-3, and HATED IT! You had to hold a button and then turn a wheel to change modes. I do switch modes regularly depending on what I'm shooting. And many of you know my feelings of how USELESS it is having MyModes on the mode dial! Personally though I'd...

    EM-5, Canon 7D and #$&@ menu frustration

Despite what a few have said here, the Oly menu system has been reviewed by pro reviewers as best out there. The problem is when you use an advanced camera it's going to have a detailed menu system. Now the OP has mentioned the Canon menu, but there are so many things missing from its menus...

Will the world end if I leave my battery on charge?

Fuji EF-20 Flash Unit on E-M10?

As someone who owns THREE 285HVs (and a 283), you CAN beat it! My latest is the Yongnuo YN-560II (they've upgraded it to III since I bought mine). First it recharges MUCH FASTER than the Vivitar (Vivitar is one of the slowest recycling flashes I own, even with using the 400v power adapter)...
