    Showcase Olympus 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ

I haven't had this lens for a long time, and I'm now addicted to the 12-40 on my Pen-F, but I always thought the 12-60 EZ was a very useful lens that suffered when it was released by comparisons with the Pro grade 12-60 built for the 4/3 SLR's that preceded m43. On it's own terms it is a...

I'm partial to Zuiko from my OM-1 and OM-4 days... but do they still make the best lenses?

No problem. I like smaller kits and have gone all native glass on the m43, except for old manual focus lenses. But auto focus speed isn't an issue there. I enjoy shooting with the Pen-F more than I have any system camera since the original OM's. The original E-M5 is not far behind, and I will...

Adobe no longer offering $10/mo LR Classic CC plan to new users

At $20 they will lose me when my renewal comes up at year's end. I will find another good raw converter and reinstall PS 7 on my computer. It has 99.5% of what I use, which is fairly conventional photo stuff.

Thinking of selling 12-40 pro to fund 12-100 pro

I actually do shoot the 12-40 indoors at f2.8 a fair bit, so it's safe with me, and I do at least 75% of my shooting with it. The extra reach would be nice but I need a 1/100 shutter speed to shoot people doing things in dimly lit indoor settings, which I'm in a lot in people's homes traveling...

what photography related item did you buy this week?

I pulled the trigger on a new, open box Leica D-Lux 7. I'm going to travel with lots of gift gizmos and need something light and small for myself as a photo kit. The carry on weight allowance 15 lbs plus a "personal item", but that has to be under your feet, and it's a 14.5 hour flight. No...

what photography related item did you buy this week?

I've had this lens for a while, and I'll never get rid of it. Nowadays, I usually use my big honking 12-40 f2.8, a lens I absolutely love, but I took this on an E-M5 I to SE Asia as my prime lens a couple of years ago, and I have no complaints about the resulting shots, inside or outside. It is...

    Show Pen F Images

A couple from visiting adopted family in Laos last August/September. My granddaughter Laura, named after my mother, one son with his girlfriend at Tad Sae (Sae Falls), and another son in a Phonsavon snooker parlour. The pool shot was taken with the Pen F and an old 50mm screw mount Summicron...

    Night shots

Hi Dave: I had the 109 for a while then, deciding I had more stuff than I needed, got rid of it. Now I have a trip in June where I'll be taking too many gifts to pack the Pen and 12-40 in my carry-on. I almost got another type 109; it's a nice camera. But I got a really got deal on an open box...

    Night shots

Very nice. But I have a question. Is the shot taken with the D-Lux 7 or the D-lux type 109, which was the earlier version of the camera? Asking because I just bought (and am waiting for) a D-lux 7.

    Review Pen-F 10 months in

I got my Pen almost as soon as they came out, and unless I need the weather sealing of the E-M5 that is what I shoot with. It is my number one camera. I never understood the objection to the jpeg modes. They're quite useful, the tri-x mono mode is terrific, and if you shoot raw&jpeg, as I always...

    Showcase Olympus 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ

I have the 12-40 f2.8, a lens I really love, but I keep this lens capable little beauty, too, and use it when I want a smaller kit. The pictures in this thread show why.

    Full Frame Image Thread

I'd resisted the siren call of full frame, as I have been very happy with my Pen-F (and 12-40 f2.8) and my original version E-M5 with a nice if not especially extensive collection of lenses. But I finally bought a new Sony RX-1 to replace my Leica X1 (which I loved, so I don't need lighting...

Am I imagining? Or is OM-D E-M5 Image Stabilization that different?

Yes I've successfully gone lower than the 1/2 second I mentioned, but at 1/2 the percentage of sharp images is pretty high, so I used that as an admittedly arbitrary cutoff.
  18. L

Am I imagining? Or is OM-D E-M5 Image Stabilization that different?

I have both the Pen-F and the original E-M5, and if I pay attention I can easily shoot at 1/2 second hand held with the E-M5 and the 12-40 extended to 40mm. And I wouldn't claim to have especially steady hands; shooting a 50mm on film cameras I could go down to 1/15 sec with some extra...

    Showcase Olympus 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ

I'm going overseas for two months in a couple of weeks with my Pen F and original vintage E-M5, and though I'm in love with the 12-40mm f2.8 these days and figure it will be my main lens when I wander out to shoot, I'm throwing the 14-42 pancake in the bag for days when I'm going out not...

    Show your Old Cameras

THis was my first OM camera, my first SLR. I sold it to a friend when I got my beloved OM-1, but I still have one (along with an OM-1 and OM-4), and I'd be loathe to get rid of them. It's a system I liked a lot.

What is your dream camera body?

The Pen-F with a hybrid optical VF. Why not the Fuji X-Pro, then? Because I'm heavily invested in the M43 system and am satisfied with the quality from my E-M5 and Pen-F. I had an X-Pro and loved it, but I don't love my Pen-F with the 12-40 f2.8 any less. Alternatively, a digital version of...

Olympus E-510 - my first love, anyone else wanna share their story?

My first was an OM-1 too, though both my prior Olympus cameras that got me there were also special, one a rangefinder, the other the OM-10. I find I still like to shoot in the way to which I became accustomed using the OM-1. The first digital camera I loved was the Olympus E-300, an...

    Panasonic 20mm or PL 25mm?

Much as I loved the PL25 and the Olympus 25 f1.8, both of them really wonderful lenses, I finally decided that my fondness for the 20mm field of few was reasserting itself. It is the basic focal length I learned to shoot with using Olympus film rangefinders, and I find it very versatile. It...

    Showcase Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO

I love this lens. I know I will often use the Pen-F with the 20mm pancake to approximate the experience -that I enjoyed a lot - of shooting the old Olympus 35mm rangefinders with a fixed lens around 40mm, but this lens is a joy to use. I especially like the manual focus clutch. The shot below...

Showcase Olympus OM Zuiko 50mm f3.5 Macro

I've used it with my E-M5, and I agree. Sometimes one just wants the experience of using these great lenses, feeling the way they handle and enjoying the liquid resistance of good manual focus..The lenses perform well, but there is also a tactile satisfaction that is hard to describe.

Showcase Olympus OM Zuiko 50mm f3.5 Macro

I haven't shot with this lens for a while, but it's a great little optic. Maybe I'll put it on my Pen-F and try some macro shots. The 12-40 focuses so closely, that I rarely have need for a real macro these day.

    Do You Use A Strap

It's such an individual thing. Nowdays I keep the camera in a bag or pocket depending on size until I'm ready to start holding it to shoot, then I use a wrist strap in case I lose my grip on the camera. The time that might have happened, when I tripped over a wire and fell, I took the brunt of...

    Budget portrait lens for newborns

My grandson is in Laos, but there is a possibility I'll get there next month. I got rid of my O25 f1.8 because the P20 is smaller and a better focal length for me presently, but if I were building a kit specifically around shooting kids and had decided primes was the way to go, I think the O45...

    Showcase Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO

I love this lens, and really don't understand the complaints about its size. Right now I'm using it on the Pen-F. I understand that for some the combination is awkward, and handling considerations are always very personal, but for me, it is a convenient and well balanced kit. The manual focus...

    Showcase Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO

This is a hell of a lens, and the Pen with which I was using it (I don't find it to big for the camera at all) is a hell of a camera. May be off to Laos in a month, and this combo is certainly going with me if I manage to get away.

In the old days I'd have done a bit of compensating development, but I managed to get something decent from the Pen-F jpeg in Photoshop. Once I'm home and have a better monitor at my disposal I'll revisit the shot with the raw file.

    A 2nd camera ...

Very nicely stated. Of course there is no right way to work except the one you feel comfortable with that gives you the results you want. I use EVF all the time because I love my E-M5 and Pen F. I supposed my reservations have to do with remembering all those years ago doing careful metering...

    A 2nd camera ...

I'm thinking a system with an optical viewfinder, so areal single lens reflex, would be better if she is learning to meter without "chimping" using an EVF. Different opinions about this, but knowing how to evaluate a scene and compensate for an exposure reading is a very useful skill to have...

    Photokina 2016 Looking very important

It will be interesting to see what comes out, but I never feel confident about market predictions. 43 sensors were supposed to bite the dust at least since I owned my E-300 (which was considered ugly with it's awful flat top at the time. Things do change! No pentaprism is now mirrorless sexy)...
