Opinion on gear for a new photograper...

Thank everyone! Great great suggestions all around... I asked him again, he mostly wants to start getting into it for his baby on the way. So this will be geared towards portraits initially... (I'm not sure his feelings on used, esp with the body...but I will def tell him he can always...

Opinion on gear for a new photograper...

Hey guys...I am trying to put together a kit for a friend that wants to start to slowly get into photography & not willing to spend too much... His max budget is ~$600-$650... I was assuming a PEN kit with either a Sigma 30mm or Oly 25mm... But not sure if there is a Panny body, and or...

Panasonic Lumix GM1, Ideal Travel Companion

Love the shots. I have the GM1... and the Oly 25mm pretty much lives on it... I recently got the LX100 to combat the lack of range the GM1 kit that I used held me at...but it's downfalls are not having a built in Flash and much slower at the 25mm range (~f/2.8)...

The GM5. The Ultimate in m43 Camera P*rn...

Yeah, I really wish the GM5 was a bit more, like I wrote previously...but even so...not having to switch lens as with my LX100...it might have not made much of a difference... That being said, my GM1 isn't going anywhere...

LOL... I'll have to read this at home...but I hope this is a solution...

Sooo....too early to get some user-feedback on the Lx100?

Yeah... it does...but also adds another chance for issues with focusing since I'm moving my hands...But appreciate the help!
  15. MrKal_El

Sooo....too early to get some user-feedback on the Lx100?

One issue I've had since my first Panasonic mu43 camera (GM1) is the way Panny implements AF with MF assist. With an Olympus...the assist goes away back to the standard view in a split sec after the manual focus. Panny instead keep either the PIP or Full screen view after the manual dial it...

Sooo....too early to get some user-feedback on the Lx100?

Sadly... I'm leaning to this exact feeling. I still need more testing... I knew the lens would've been ~2.8 at 25mm... But I have to mess with some settings...cause not totally in love with it from the f/2 and above range...

Sooo....too early to get some user-feedback on the Lx100?

I literally only played with it for 10 minutes yesterday. 1. Feels great in the hand 2. I kinda hate the electronic zoom as much as I thought I would 3. The EVF is better than I thought, but not spectacular. (Used to my EM1 of course) 4. The whole "Auto ISO locked to max 1600" on...

This was by far my most anticipated product announcement since buying the GM1...which I love. Couple of things...I really wish they were able to fit the flash in... and WHY OH WHY couldn't they have added a control dial on top?!

    LX100 reviews are up

You are absolutely right...and by comparing I was really just thinking out loud if the size difference would be worth a hit in what is possible with the 45mm that I currently use on my GM1... The ease of not having to change a lens, esp in the most of the settings I use the GM1 (parties...

BTW, Sadly..the GM5 has actually lost the built in flash... A major hit for me...

    LX100 reviews are up

I pre-ordered both this and the GM5 as soon as they went up...I will be doing ALOT of research in the next few weeks to decided what I want to keep. I do already have the GM1 and LOVE it...but honestly, the Oly 25mm pretty much lives on it...so the LX100 might just be the best move right now...

If I get the 42.5mm Nocticron...

I LOVE the Nocticron. I had the 75mm which I also loved, but got rid of it due the limiting (for me) focal length. The rendering and bokehness of the pics from the Nocti are simply jaw dropping. (That being said, my 12-40mm still sees much more time overall due to it's adaptability.)...
  27. MrKal_El

Now you have the 12-40, which primes do you use and why?

While my 12-40mm sees about 75% of my EM1's time...I do use the Nocticron for the rendering, bokeh and speed (I used my 45mm prior to that for the the same reason.). I also use the Oly 25mm for the aspect, size and speed as well.

    GM1 + Nocticron 42.5mm - an equal marriage ?

I've tried the Nocticron on the GM1 (I have the Franiec grip)...and while "doable"...it's a bit ridiculous...the 45mm is a much better pairing IMO. That being said...can't beat that yummy rendering.

New E-PM2 Owner: Tips & Suggestions

Mostly that having the ability to control Aperture is very convenient. That being said, using the kit lens that max at f/3.5 might not make a huge difference, but it will depending on Landscapes etc. Let the body control the shutter.
