Is it still reasonable to buy the PL25/1.4?

I started out with the 20/1.7 and now have the 25/1.4 and 15/1.7. IMO 20mm is nice for indoors; it can comfortably fit 2 people (waist + above) across a large table (about 4-5 ft). But it's too slow to focus, so I sold it a long time ago. The 15mm is close to a smart phone angle of view, so...

    New Front Page

I like the new format, but is there a way to retain the original image aspect ratio? Cropping into the center of an image composed on the rule of thirds makes the food photography post look awkward. For reference, I like the way that Google Photos handles images.

    Bags and more bags

I'm in a similar situation looking for a new bag. It seems that backpacks are meant for transport, whereas shoulder bags and slings are meant for quick access. The closest (but not perfect) bags I've come across online: Tamrac Corona, Case Logic Kilowatt (discontinued?), Manfrotto Advanced...

    FL 600 and hummingbirds

You're limited to about 1/320 or 1/250 shutter speed with X-sync. You can go faster with HSS, at the loss of flash output. You'll have to base your requirements on flash-to-subject distance (and modifiers), aperture, and ISO.

How can i get fog pictures

Perhaps try a longer focal length? The fog is "denser" with distance, so you can concentrate on that with a smaller viewing angle.

    Panasonic Leica 8-18mm, 12-60mm, and 50-200mm f/2.8-4.0 lenses!

Sounds like I might be in the minority, but I'm looking forward to a 50-200 f/2.8-4, if it materializes. It would be a great upgrade to my 45-200 f4-5.6.

How long do you keep the battery in camera when not in use?

Unlike my old Panasonic G2, my E-M5 Mk2 resets its clock without a battery over a long time, so the battery always stays in except when swapping. No ill effects yet.

    Bags and more bags

FWIW, the Case Logic TBC-405 is just barely large enough to fit an E-M5II, landscape grip (HLD-8G), and either a Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 or Panasonic 7-14mm f/4. Battery, lens cap, and memory cards fit in the side pockets. I use it when I want to travel very light...

    E-M5 Mk II Defective Screen

The lens is fine. It's a Panasonic/Leica 25mm f/1.4 that never gave me trouble with either a Panasonic G2 not Olympus E-M1. The screen, however, has that dark border regardless of what it's showing. You can even notice it in the configuration menus.

    E-M5 Mk II Defective Screen

Yesterday was great because my new E-M5 Mk II was delivered. But excitement was quickly dampened when I turned it on and saw that the edges of the LCD had severe vignetting. I hope this is just a rare occurrence. Anyone seen this before? Adjusting brightness/etc doesn't do alleviate the...

    Not gelling with the 20mm

I sold my 20mm f/1.7 for a 25mm f/1.4 long ago (for focus speed), but IIRC the 20mm works well if you frame as if to fit about 3 or 4 people closely in the picture. I wouldn't want to take head shots with it, however.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 mkI Image Thread

Rented an E-M1 for the weekend. Colors and noise at base ISO are amazing. It's just a shame that sRGB can't hold bright orange well as aRGB; had to fudge the highlights a little in Lightroom to compensate. E-M1 ISO 200, 12-35 f/2.8 @ 32mm, f/2.8 Also, this is one of those rare cases...

    Loose Rubber Focus Ring? Pana-Leica 25mm 1.4

No see any overall file reduction with DNG

This is a con for me. Every time Lightroom writes out metadata, it has to touch a multi-megabyte file, potentially corrupting it. With side car files, the original RAW files are untouched and only the XMP file is modified. This also speeds up backup software because the metadata outside of...

Panasonic Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm F1.2 Review Part 1 - First Impressions and Comparisons to 45/75m

[Skipping all the off-topic DOF comments] Napi: Thanks for this write-up! The images speak for themselves: the Nocticron is a heck of a lens and seems to render OOF areas quite well. I'm waiting for it to show up at the local lens rental to give it a whirl.

    Wrapping Cloth for the EM1

I don't have the CS-35, but it's been on my B&H wishlist for a while. What I like about it, compared to other solutions, is the built-in elastic band. Velcro is convenient, but kind of noisy.

The variety of lenses leaves me perplexed...

The difference is perspective and the way it distorts faces. Longer focal lengths will compress the depth of faces, so it can be good or bad, depending on the subject's facial structure, if you frame the portrait the same way between the 45mm and the 60mm/75mm lenses. I like to use the 45mm...
