Showcase Olympus 150mm f/2 SHG ZD

I am increasingly of the view that this is one of the best optics ever made. I just love it. My number 1 reason for not being interested in full frame. My true love of it relates to its use in portraiture, but here are some nice ones of the autumn leaves from a few weeks back. Untitled by Dan...

Absolutely agree, 100%. How else will I justify spending hundreds of dollars on new high capacity memory cards and hard drives so I can store enormous files that I will mostly display online?

Showcase Olympus 150mm f/2 SHG ZD

I bought this to photograph birds, but I have to say, it makes truly gorgeous portraits. It just nails the foreground-background transition, and just renders beautifully. Untitled by Dan de Kadt, on Flickr

Showcase Panasonic Leica 12mm f/1.4 DG Summilux

There are many (very) good zooms that cover the FL. The lens is really all about f1.4 and PL "rendering," but it comes at a cost, both in size and price. Personally find it indispensable and wonderful, but I don't use zooms.

    M1X, 300mm + TC14, handheld, truths and observations

Oh man I think my tone totally failed here. I was just joking. I enjoyed your post because it was basically not a mindless contemplation of equivalence and the like. Was trying to add more levity by impersonating the equivalence-police from DPReview. Whoops! Peace!

    M1X, 300mm + TC14, handheld, truths and observations

Very disappointed that your post did not properly address equivalence and how f4 is really f8 is really f14. 0/10 for this review.

Somebody Tell Me What I'm Missing With This Photographer's Street Photography

I like #2 and #6, though I think perhaps the narrower depth of field on the GFX 50R is not working so well for you. One of the things I like about your hyper-realism street photography is the strong depth of field, and a few of the images here seem to lack that (e.g. #1, #3, #4).

Is there a filter to eliminate purple flare in oly 12mm f2

I'm using it on an E-M1.i and the images look very well behaved to me, though as I said no astro yet. All my images in the lens showcase are that combo, though they're mostly portraits and some street photography (and are processed for film emulation). KEH and MPB have a few for sale I think...

Is there a filter to eliminate purple flare in oly 12mm f2

Any Oly 12/1.2 is likely going to be as oi not more expensive than the PL 12/1.4, which can often be found used for 800-900. So if you're waiting for the 1.2 perhaps just plump for the PL now. What I can tell you is that the PL 12/1.4 is a FABULOUS lens. Sharp, contrasty, and smooth, even deep...

Review Observations on Sony full frame vs micro 4/3. Hint: m4/3 still relevant

Honestly this is one of the most bizarre comments I've seen on here. Everyone should be budget conscious, regardless of whether they have MFT, APS-C, FF, or MF. But sure, do whatever works for you financially. And not all photographers make use of high speed. In fact, I daresay most A7, Z6, or...

Review Observations on Sony full frame vs micro 4/3. Hint: m4/3 still relevant

I'm genuinely curious as I only have an E-M1.i, but are the A7s or the newer E-M1s (or other cameras) locked into UHS-II cards? Because that's what's annoying, surely? With the Z series you are locked into XQD cards which are, let's be clear, expensive in absolute terms. (Edit: Some googling...

And you thought the E-M1x was expensive?

This is what happened to me too. In July/August I spent time really seriously costing out moving to Sony, and decided it was far too expensive (for what I wanted) and wouldn't add enough to warrant the cost. I did that again when the Z6 was launched. And I agree that the MF digital is the one...

OMD E-M1X Rationale (from Olympus, not me ;)

I really like this line from the interview: "Our R&D guys just sit next to professionals sometimes, and watch how they use the camera. That’s how they get inspiration." Using an Olympus camera you can really feel that.

Traveling internationally - one lens or multiple?

I'm a great believer in gear minimalism, especially while traveling. I went to the Namibian deaerr with just a 25mm, and to Cuba with just a 11-22 and a 75. Currently I travel with just a 12, 25, and 75. I think you'd miss the PL if you didn't take it. I'd almost take the 8-18 and a normal or...

    Night at the Circus

Nice collection. In particular, 6 is excellent. 2, 7, and 8 are also really nice performance shots. I like 3 too but maybe with a crop? I really like the light and shadows and the relationship between the performer and the woman. I think you could accentuate that.

I assume I'm one of the people losing their fuzzy little heads. I'll tell you why I react strongly. The obnoxious gear threads make me feel bad about photography. They make me question my gear, and feel that I have bought into a hopless dying system. They make me feel like I need to spend...

The point isn't that my photos are brilliant, or that my camera is brilliant, or that there is no use case where my camera sucks. It's that people have spent the whole day complaining about a camera they've never even touched instead of just going out and taking photos. So I did. People have...

... I was certain my gear wouldn't even turn on, let alone take a photo. A micro 4/3rds sensor? What. Was. I. Thinking!? Buying into a system that is so flawed, so technologically outdated, so shockingly inferior in every respect that to even attempt to take a photograph would anger the Full...

    New to 4/3

You really don't *have* to do exposure stacking for landscapes, depending on your tolerances. The DR in M43 is really not bad, but do watch out for shadow noise from underexposure. While on many systems one should expose for the highlights and pull the shadows back, in M43 you typically want to...

OMD E-M1X Previews, reviews, and official announcement

My point is the focus on computational photography comes at a cost. You choose where to invest your R&D funds, and Olympus has chosen CP, not original sensor development, or whatever else everyone here craves. And yes other companies have some stacking and postprocessing. I meant to imply that...

OMD E-M1X Previews, reviews, and official announcement

Correct. But just to make one point (that I'm sure you agree with) clearly: M43 isn't the only system with "limitations" and "weaknesses." All camera systems are a compromise. The $3500 price tag of an A7Riii and the $4500 price tag of a Sony A9 are weaknesses. The (typically) massive size of FF...
