Having supported myself as a commercial photographer for about 16 years during the 80's and 90's I can say that any career in a creative field is extremely hard work and next to impossible to sustain.
The one thing that I quickly learned back then is getting clients has sometimes nothing to...
That looks good until you actually read the engadget article.
"Just as Sharp offered a slightly more hopeful glimpse at its balance sheet this morning, so too does Panasonic have something worth celebrating: a net profit of 61.4 billion yen ($667 million) in the last three months of 2012...
That media ethics piece definitely sheds a lot of light on this story.
This guy made a decision to not help and instead fire off a couple of pictures. Now that this story has blown up, he trying to cover his tracks.

Think of duct tape with adhesive that isn't as strong and instead of the smooth, shiny backing it's matte and slightly rough.

I'm jealous. I've been looking for a decently priced Crown Graphic for a while now. I was brought up on shooting film and Polaroid. While I love my digital equipment it really only gets used for family pics now. Any more "serious" stuff that I shoot for myself is on Polaroid or film.
They're hot but not NEARLY as hot as tungsten. I shot jewlery with HMI's for years. I'm thinking that Megan Fox job was shot with HMI's since the shadows are so sharp. Certainly wouldn't get that kind of light with those Kino Flo lights.
In the case of a studio shoot 1/120th / sec is fine. No need to worry too much about hot tungsten lighting as most use HMI lighting. for studio fashion shoots the Red One camera looks like an very useful solution. It seems like it's being used more and more.

For big budget Fashion and Celeb shoots it probably will eventually. Does anyone remember reading about the Megan Fox Esquire shoot from 2009?

Shooting that way seems like a natural progression for fashion shoots. The photographer can let the model run through all the...
Well, considering that there is no GH3 and any info about it's announcement are just rumors at this point, you may be waiting for a while.

Apple sells about 40 million iphones every quarter. Android as a whole obviously sells more but there is not one single Android handset with sales numbers like that.
Also, a word about Samsung sales numbers. They report sales as units shipped. Which doesn't tell the true number of handsets...
It's not about someone being scared. For a pro FF shooter with lots invested in the system what will the OMD give him aside from being smaller? Nothing.
Any camera can be used to take a picture for money.

Majored in photo in high school and college in NYC. Assisted for commercial still life guys for about 5 years. (Back then when they asked for the "small camera" that meant to get the 4x5.)
The years as an assistant taught me tons more than I learned in school. I worked with people from all...
"To be more precise, the overwhelming majority of existing professionals will buy and use the Canon 5Dmk3 and the Nikon D800 and it's because they have already bought into a commercial paradigm that is too scary for them to turn away from. And because they are not risk takers."
That is such a...
Micro 4/3's equipment is at a point where the image quality is as good or better than entry level and some mid level SLR's.
As far as I can see the price premium we pay is for the portability of the system nothing more.
As was said above, the big box stores carry the NEX line and some m43 cameras as well. I just still think that the mentality is that when it's time to step up to a "better" camera, most people look at an SLR.
To casual shooters an SLR reminds them of what a professional might use. I also...
Interesting thread. I think that in the US at least when p&s people want to step up to a better camera they almost always go to an SLR. Stores like Best Buy, Costco etc. usually only have p&s and SLR's. That's what most people feel the the usual progression is.
Until that way of thinking is...
Mobile phones will continue to destroy the p&s camera market but I really don't think that SLR's are going anywhere.
Anytime I've been anywhere where there had been a group of people (on vacation, events in my town) i have only seen someone using an m43 camera once. I do see MANY people with...
