Thanks for all the entries, and sorry to take so long wrapping this up. It was tough for me to call this one, but I have finally narrowed it down to three: Honorable mention: atomic Excellent panning shot, and that car looks like a ton of fun! Runner up: zethanos I had a hard time...

OM-D w/ 12-50mm weather sealing... may just win me over

You'll probably want a hood to keep water off the front element, I just picked up a collapsible rubber one for a couple dollars but haven't had a chance to test it in the rain yet. I can, however, confirm that it doesn't vignette at 12mm.

Thanks for picking me! Those plants were coming up through the stairs in front of a hotel in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. How do I improve my photos?

For the exposure: Turn on the histogram or the shadow/highlight warnings then overexpose a bit while making sure you're not blowing out anything important. It's usually better to bring things down than up in post, as boosting exposure brings noise out of the shadows. For the sharpness, watch...

    Olympus...make a M43 with a shutter speed dial.

That is one thing that the xz-1 has that I wish was incorporated into the om-d, the dial around the lens mount. It would be great to have access to aperture, shutter speed, and ISO at the same time, and the lens mount seems like the perfect place for the third wheel. I would prefer that to the...

Weekend trip to Sofia, C/C welcome

I just got back from a weekend trip to Sofia, Bulgaria. I was mostly there to take care of some embassy stuff, the constant nemesis of the English teacher abroad, so I only brought a couple of lenses with me. Most of these were shot with the 12-50 on my E-M5, as there was rain on and off for a...

As an American constantly living in non-English-speaking countries, I jumped on e-ink as soon as it was available to me. Help me improve my technique

Just a quick note, I think that kneeling down and leaning in would have helped this shot. Kneeling down would put you more at eye level, and moved the signs a bit out of the way. Leaning in would put you a bit closer and given you a narrower dof for more subject isolation. Getting lower and...

For prime lovers: what's your preferred ratio?

If the weather is good, I go with the 7.5, 20, and 45. It's a bit of a wide spread, but I feel like it's really good at what it does, and some of the best deals in mft. I didn't plan on any ratios, but I got the 20 when it was the only game in town, and the 7.5 and 45 when they came out and...

    MeFoto Tripod and OMD?

The OM-D flip screen generally doesn't play well with tripod plates. The solution is to use one of the grips. The OEM grip creates enough space for the screen to flip, and some of the 3rd party grips function as qr plates. Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk HD

Sacrificing some lenses for 35-100 or add a 45?

My 35-100 should be in my hands tomorrow, I'll let you know if it is all I dreamed it would be and more. Interesting observation (to me anyhow)

My parents were in Istanbul at the time, so I can assure you that there was at least one OM-D on the streets. I think the problem is that micro 4/3 cameras are too stealthy and discreet. They snap and fade away like ninjas, while bulky DSLRs smash their way through the crowds leaving a trail of...

    Lenstip reviews Panasonic 35-100/2.8

$1500 is a bit steep. I got mine on Amazon shipped from Japan for $1200, and it came with a free pair of chopsticks. I used "Asuka from japan", the one with free 3-day shipping from the "more buying options" page, and it arrived safe and sound pretty quickly.

OM-D EM-5 image stabilizer focal length does not update despite an Olympus M4/3 lens is mounted.

The focal length you dial in is only used for lenses that don't communicate with the body. I like that it remembers what it is set to, since the only manual lens I use regularly is my 7.5 fisheye. I never have to worry about the IS, it's always at the right setting when it's turned on. I agree...

All the sto-fen does is scatter the light from the flash in all directions. If you are in an enclosed space with surfaces for the light to bounce off, it will help to light things mre evenly. Why the different colour?

looks like the first shot has metered WB for the highlights on the case, the second for Mickey's eyes, and the third for the desk(?) behind the case and under mickey. it looks like it's trying to deal with a combination of different kinds of light.

Big trip at end of August, could use some tips from experienced travelers

I was just in Greece and turkey last summer, I was using just the 7,5, 20, and 45. If you do one of the ferry rides in Istanbul or climb to the top of a tower, the extra reach of the 14-150 will probably be nice. You'll really want the 9-18 for all those sites that you can't step too far back...
