Spain - Pen-F & Oly 17/1.8 go traveling together
My previous visit to Spain was in 2002. That was the last foreign travel adventure I shot on film (color negative stock largely procured en route). I can only recall using a single OM-2 and Zuiko 50 f/1.4. I suspect I may occasionally have used a Zuiko 75-150 f/4 or, even less likely, a Zuiko 28 f/3.5. My wife toted a film P&S and my son was carrying a Canon Rebel film camera that was about half the weight of my OM-2. By this time, my wife and I had already started using an Olympus 3030Z digicam, but it stayed home. Digital cameras and cards were expensively iffy affairs then – 3MB images and 256 MB cards were pushing it! Scanned 35mm snapshots seem most satisfactory to me when scaled to 5-6Mp. So, I had a list of images I wanted to reshoot.

Ohio Renaissance Festival - EM5.2 Edition
I went to this event 3 times and took different cameras each time. This is the Micro 4/3 edition. Shot mainly with the EM5.2 and Panasonic 35-100mm f/2.8
Concentrated on the people and their costumes, mostly.12Oct 31, 2018 -
Swallow Falls State Park, Maryland
I absolutely loved hiking here! Only had about 2 hours of time to spend but I would love to go back and spend a few days there! These were shot with the Pen-F and Oly 9-18mm.

Review Pen-F 10 months in
The Pen-F has been out for just a bit over a year and a half, and I’ve had mine for about 10 months. The Pen-F has certainly been a polarizing body. There are two camps: the fan boys, and the practical folk. For the fan boys the style and retro feel is paramount and for the rest the performance is just not there for the price.
I was firmly in the practical camp when the Pen-F came out. I thought the body looked great but the E-M5mk2 was simply a better choice. 10 months in and I am seriously considering paring down to the Pen-F as my only full sized body (I also have an Air-01 as a super light travel “body”). So how did I get here?
I had the opportunity to buy a used Pen-F at a good price figuring it would be a decent second body as a spare, and I would get to play with a 20MP body and hi-res mode. That was pretty much my complete expectation.
20MP
One thing that I have noticed is the improvement from the extra 4MP. Most of the reviews have really minimized the difference but I certainly notice the extra resolution when shooting landscapes.
That mono mode and who shoots JPG anyway?
So I won’t even try to deny it, the mono mode (mode2) is absolutely awesome. I shot a lot of Tri-X in 120 format (135 "full frame" - ha!) and I love the look. Yes you can achieve this look in post, but to be able to simply get it straight out of camera is fantastic. By shooting RAW and jpeg you get the best of both, fantastic mono straight out of camera and a RAW file if you want to post process.
Body size and controls
I am using the JB wood grip on the Pen-F and it seems to suit the body quite well and is very very light. The strap is an Artisan and Artist silk braided strap.
Body size is pretty subtle because the Pen-F with a grip is pretty much the same size and weight as the OM-D line. The squarer body with no protruding EVF hump makes the body easier to carry and easier to get in and out of bags.

Crdome and deepaqua's Brooklyn Adventure
A few months back, Web-Betty wrote If Crdome ever messages you and says "I'm coming to visit, let's go on a photowalk," do it!
So when@Crdome sent me a note that he would be in New York over the holidays, I jumped at the chance to shoot some pictures with him. We met up at Black Brick, a local coffee shop in Williamsburg, the epicenter of Brooklyn hipster cool.
From there we took a stroll down Bedford Avenue, the main Williamsburg drag, where we came across this assortment of items in an empty lot. I'm still not exactly sure if it was an art project, a protest, or something else.
We then decided we would take the subway to Bushwick, a still-gentrifying neighborhood featuring a mix of industrial factories, artist lofts, dive bars, housing projects, and a vibrant immigrant enclave.29Dec 31, 2017
