A few shots from a trip to the Dolomites and Tuscany
First time doing a longer trip by car in Europe, from Stockholm in Sweden to Tuscany in Italy. Also the first time doing a trip with both our kids (1 and 3 years old). To make it a little bit easier we took the car train from Hamburg and decided to stay four nights in Val Gardena (Selva) in the Dolomites for some light hiking. I also brought my bike to experience Italian mountain passes and the rolling hills in Tuscany.
Travelling with kids makes it difficult to concentrate on taking photos, I ended up with a lot of shots of backs of people walking. I brought my GM1 with the Panasonic 14 mm lens on some of my bike rides and it worked ok (even though I would have liked something that could slip in and out of the jersey pocket a bit easier).
Both the Dolomites and Tuscany are wonderful places and I hope to go back to both again in the future!18Jul 12, 2017 -
Whitby UK-Dracula Country
had a great few days in the north of England staying in Whitby the small coastal town where a lot of Bram Stokers Dracula is set, the mist came down one evening so I could not resist going out and taking a few photos

Share-Airshow Photographs
I was going thru my photos when I found a couple of airshow photographs I had flagged but had not processed yet. Then I was surprised there was not a thread for airshow photographs. There is one for airplanes but not airshows, so figured I would start one.
Both of these shots are from the 2015 Wings Over Houston Airshow and are of the Breitling Jet Team. They are an amazing civilian jet team and one I hope comes back to Houston. Last year was their first time performing in the United States (they are from France if I remember correctly) and unfortunately they are not going to be here for the 2016 airshow.
This first one I was really happy with because it is my best capture of two planes passing from 3 different airshows. It is such a hard shot to get because you are panning with one of the aircraft and the other is moving in the opposite direction. I wish I had opened up a stop and kicked shutter speed to 1/8000, would have frozen the passing plane a bit better. Regardless, I am happy with the shot.69Sep 15, 2016 -
Retro Cars - Nostalgia Week at Somero, Finland
They held a festival called Nostalgiaviikko (Nostalgy Week in English) in a small town called Somero. The 50s was the theme and we went there for my birthday - which happened to be a national day off (not because of my birthday though... yet...
). Anyway, I mainly focused on capturing the retro cars. Man, I wish I had the money to buy one of those beauties and had the know-how to keep it running too. 
All the photos were taken with my Olympus E-M5 and 12-40mm f/2.8. Since the first pictures I took seemed to lack "something", I tried the Diorama Art Filter - and liked it. So I used the filter for the rest of the day.
Most of these pictures are OOC-JPEGs that I tweaked in Photoshop and some I processed from RAW to JPEG but used "a bit extreme" values in Lightroom (I don't normally set clarity to 100 as I now did

Manta Silhouettes
A few of my manta ray silhouette shots from my recent trip to the Socorro Islands. I am going to print whichever gets the most likes at ~20x30 on aluminum. I will fix any backscatter etc first.

Photographing The Cap at Comic Con
This was one of the first "live" event the Olympus E-M1 covered. As I mentioned in The Tides of Change post, the Olympus was originally purchased for personal work.
Anyway, it gradually became the "do everything" kit, and this was the first full on event, very quickly followed by a two day equestrian event. Anyway, back to the Cap.
This isn’t a studio session. It was shot on a balcony with a crowd of onlookers and the usual hustle and bustle that goes with a comic con event. You can feel a little intimidated with Thor stood to your right, and Darth Vader hissing away down your left ear ‘ole, and both of them wanting to peek at the back of the camera each time you chimp. Have you tried telling Darth Vader to get his fat head out of your line of sight? Well, it doesn’t go down too well, I can tell you.
So........
When the Cap walked onto the shooting area, my first thought was the poster which had been used to promote the first Captain America Film. It was an upper body shot, and the lower half of his shield falling away into shadow really quickly. The setup wasn’t really ideal for such a shot, to be honest, as it was a typical event setup with two key lights and two high accents. The key lights were a couple of honeycombed 150cm Octas, which are great for full lengths and groups. To get the fall off, I raised both Octas to the maximum height on their stands, which was around seven feet, and then angled them both upwards to cross the Cap. The fall off from the honeycomb cut nicely across his shield, although it took a couple of goes to match both Octas properly.
Each key light was powered by 600Ws location lights, and were firing at 1/8 power as they were a fair distance from Cap. Incidentally, I had brought him further forward to ensure the key lights didn’t illuminate the backdrop, so as to preserve the depth of black.
