After about a year of use it's time to write a review. This lens is often in my bag. It has the best image quality of all the Minolta 28mm lenses; the earlier Rokkor 28/2 lenses are somewhat sharper in the centre, but much worse in the corners and the Minolta 28/2.8 are not far behind at middle apertures like f/5.6. This plain MD 28/2 has excellent centre sharpness and contrast from f/2.8 onwards; wide-open at f/2 it's soft and flary and also shows purple fringing. Optimum performance is at f/5.6, where corners are also adequately sharp. Mind you, it's not as good as the Zeiss Distagon 28/2.8 I've reviewed as well in the sharpness and contrast department, but I like its colour rendition and tonality much better.
For a 28mm it's fairly large and heavy, although not as hefty as the Rokkor 28/2 models. Focussing can be bit stiff, probably due to the floating focussing mechanism. It's not perfect, but it's definitely worth having, if a) you can find one and b) its price doesn't break the bank.
------------------------------ Best regards, Ad.
