Description:

Macro lens (always designated as Micro by Nikon) going to half lifesize reproduction ratio on its own or to 1:1 with a matching PK-13 extension tube.. This model is a very late AI model, suitable for almost all Nikon cameras.

I use this lens all the time on my Panasonic G1 and Nikon D300s for close-ups. Wide-open it's a bit woolly, stopped down to f/5.6 it is superb, contrasty and sharp all over the frame. Even when shifted 11mm with a Fotodiox adapter on the G1 it remains very sharp. If you look really hard you can find some traces of CA in the edges. For all intents and purposes distortion is absent.
At longer range, above 1m or so, it is still OK but it lacks the excellence it has in close-ups. Given that you can find this lens for around € 50 it is extremely good value. I have another one (Micro-Nikkor-P.C. 55mm f/3.5) which is a much earlier model and which is just as good. So any model with this spec will do.
