Description:

Minolta MC Rokkor - PG 50mm f/1.4
From www.Kenrockwell.com
INTRODUCTION
This is a manual focus lens from the 1970s.
SPECIFICATIONS
It has 7 multicoated elements in 6 groups.
It extends 1.8" (46mm) from the camera lens flange and is 2.5" (64mm) around
It is heavy: 11.1 oz (315g)
Full click stops are at f/1.4 and f/2. Half stop clicks are from f/2 through f/16. This is weird, but typical for Minolta.
It has a 55mm filter thread.
Focus is to 1.75' or 0.5m.
It's made entirely of metal.
PERFORMANCE
There is very little barrel distortion, much better than the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4.
It's sharp at all apertures. It's a little less contrasty due to some veiling at f/1.4 caused by some residual spherical aberration, however there is still a very sharp image inside the veiling, unlike the Nikkor which is soft all over at f/1.4
Color balance is neutral.

I personally love this lens. It is easy to focus manually and works well in numerous situations. Good for portraits, wildlife. Can focus at all F-Stops and great at F/1.4. Also works extremely well at infinity. Excellent Bokeh..smooth and pleasing. (Please forgive me here...I don't have enough experience to rate a lens or even describe it correctly) What I do know is that this lens has fast become my favorite adaptive lens for my Panasonic GF1. It's available frequently on EBay for around $40.00 in excellent condition.

next to none

I love this lense in low light situation it is a saver, for example in a museum where flash is forbidden the large aperture is a great advantage. The sharpness of the is just amazing. In my opinion a must have as a portrait lense in every M4/3 set. I can see the point about the weight nevertheless all lenses with this aperture are very heavy. Canon FD lense , Nikon, Pentax are all very similar in size.

A real quality lens. The f1.7 is a good lens (and usually cheaper), but this offers an extra half a stop and is just as sharp.
The build quality is first rate, focus smooth and makes manual focus easy.
The lens has that certain something that is difficult to describe and is usually found only in Leica lenses and the like. I rate this as the best quality old SLR lens I own, only rangefinder lenses beat this little beauty. It gets more use on my camera than any other lens I won.

Fast, extremely sharp staring from f/2, quite cheap, well build

|
Cons:

At f/1.4 is significantly less sharp and less contrasty,

Very good lens at this price range. It really surprised me how sharp it can be at f/2.
