The problem primarily occurs with Olympus cameras because of the way it opens and closes the aperture in the process of readying the camera to shoot. Panasonic handles this differently, so when there's a click, its of much shorter duration. So, THIS is something Olympus COULD address if they chose to change their camera's procedure for dealing with the aperture pre-shot.
At the same time, though, it sounds like a QC issue at Panasonic because SOME of the lenses make the noise and OTHER lenses do NOT, even on Olympus cameras. I have an EPL3 and had an EP3 for a while and neither of them caused a rattle with my 20 f1.7 (which I've since sold) and the 25 f1.4 doesn't make any rattlesnake noise on my EPL3. And we've certainly read plenty of reports from Oly owners and some lenses DO make the sound and some DON'T.
So, it sounds like two things going on - Olympus opens and closes the aperture pre-shot differently than Panasonic does that causes the noise to be longer and more pronounced than it is on Panasonic bodies. AND there appears to be a QC issue with the Pany 25 f1.4 if SOME make the noise and SOME DON'T.
I'm lucky that I got a good copy of the lens because I love the Oly bodies and haven't cared for a Pany body since the GF1. The GX1 could win me over but I'm not in the market for another m43 body right now. To me the combination of an Oly body with either Oly lenses or Pany lenses makes more sense than a Pany body where you're limited to Pany lenses if you want stabilization. YMMV...
