Check out this review from Ming Thein on the RX100. Now that's a gorgeous review!

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 – a somewhat comparative review

A photograph of a test target or studio setup is a "real-world" example.

You know, his reviews are almost purely subjective and often not much more than him taking a bunch of shots and deciding "I like this camera" (or not), but I find them entertaining and oddly enough they do tend to be one of the reviews I like to see on a lens or camera.

I agree with others about DPReview and Imaging Resource as well. The DPR reviews are not the whole story about a camera necessarily, but they're a great baseline because of their consistent format, approach, and ratings. It's almost impossible to review photo gear completely scientifically, but they at least make the attempt. That makes it very useful as a "first stop" for me. Then I like to fill in the rest with the more traditional opinion based reviews like the ones Amin is referring to in his OP. Even though there is almost always a bias (even if just due to the opinions of the reviewer), that's ok too. I just read multiple reviews, remember that the truth always lies somewhere under the hyperbole, and read between the lines as best I can to get some useful impressions
Thanked by snkenai.

Good photographers take good pictures. It really does not give any information on how well the camera works. It does indicate how talented the photographer is.

I like places like DPreview because they actually review a product. The rest are just opinion pieces. We have a tendency to confuse opinion with fact.

With proper and unbiased moderation (key words being "proper" and "unbiased") there is no reason why discussing other system should be banned here. Censorship is never the answer, and as long as the discussion is civil, why not let it go on? This is, after all, a discussion forum.

does not exist in a vacuum. There will always good and productive reasons to discuss and compare other systems.

Looks like Kirk Tuck got alot of blowback and name-calling from the ******s for his post about the NEX-7. Check his follow-up post from today here...

A short follow up about the nature of blogging my purchase of the Sony Nex7

It's definitely worth a good chuckle.

And as I mentioned on the TalkNEX forum, it's hard for me to understand why it is that when someone writes something on the internet (which none of us pay money to read), the whole world feels it has a right to control and redirect his thinking?

Kirk's making a statement either way. I like some of his blogs, some I don't. If he didn't care what people thought, why write the blog? Obviously he wants people to read his blog. For someone who doesn't want to be controversial, he sure does controversial things. As smart as I think he is, he should have known what would happen. It should have been expected.
