Well I consider the 14-45 an absolutely fantastic lens with great IQ. This may partially be because of the way it is corrected by the body, not sure. Anyway, I personally did not buy the Sigma to top IQ of the 14-45, but I hoped it would come close. And from what I saw so far, I think it does. I ran a few test shots at 30mm, same scene with both lenses. Most notably is of course the shallower depth of field of the Sigma, which was one of the reasons for buying, the other reason being able to freeze people's movement in a little less than perfect light. And that's also where the lens shines over the 14-45. For still scenes there's is hardly any gain in lowlight performance due to the 14-45's OIS, which works great. However for indoor scenes with people, the Sigma is really nice. At 2.8 it separates them slightly from the background in a very nice way to my taste.
All in all I would not recommend the lens over the 14-45 at 30 in terms of sharpness and contrast. They looked comparable at first glance. Also not necessarily to gain much in low light for still scenes. Yet for the reasons I bought it, I can only say it delivers and makes really nice images.
