Default Britannia visits Kingswear

Britannia, the first locomotive built as a new type (in 1951) following nationlisation of the railways, ran a service from Bristol (UK), about 100-120 miles to Kingswear (Devon) on 1st July 2012.

Arriving at Kingswear, passing Britannia Crossing

Shunting its stock at Kingswear

Running light to be turned, Kingswear no longer having a turntable

Leaving Kingswear later in the afternoon to return to Bristol

Default Dutch passenger trains

Just some very common Dutch passenger trains of these days.

Double-decker train, usually put to service as an express train

GH2, 14-45mm @ 35mm and f/5.6

Sprinter, stoptrain (if that is a word )

GH2, 14-45mm @ 24mm and f/5.6

Train model that was introduced in 1954 and scheduled to go out of service in 1994. That didn't really happen .

GH2, 14-45mm @ 35mm and f/5.6

Default steam

carbon

Union Pacific had this steam locomotive, along with 50s vintage rail cars, parked a rail line near the Iowa State Fairgrounds this weekend. It looked like it was a public relations push as we saw a few yard signs protesting Union Pacific's plans to close some nearby streets to make room for more rail. Hmmm, I may have to side with the people with the big, black, steam-powered train set. Pretty cool stuff.

wheels

E-M5 and Olympus 12mm for both, Nik for mono

Default Freight trains

Shot during a 1 hour stay at a railway crossing. There are people who are able to find out everything about freight train schedules, but I haven't dived that deeply into it.

Containers, probably going from the port of Rotterdam to Germany...

...and this one is probably returning the empty wagons.

These ones are schlepping a second locomotive as well.

All shot with GH2 and Panny 14-45mm @ 45mm
Thanked by JudyM and Firedogg.

Barrie, I really love your shots of Britannia. Have you given any thought to trying them in black and white?
