Beautiful window view into the hills, Brian. I'd love to see the same photo taken in the spring, shown beside this one.

Thanks Ian, yes - m4/3rds has certainly taken photography a nice step forward in terms of practicality combined with image quality. I love it.
Amin, I'll be returning in the spring... here's one from last spring near this location - taken with the E-620.

This is a really dramatic shot, really good composition and timing for the capture.

Como Baths at Dawn
My first ever attempt at a dawn shot...
Not entirely successful but I learnt the following: - I don’t like getting up at 4:45 am
- I need a ND filter and graduated filter
- Exposure is harder to judge with this type of photo
- I don’t like it when I want some clouds in the sky and there are none.
With that behind me, the next one should be better.
Cheers

Bought my first 4/3 camera just before Xmas, a Lumix GF1 with 20mm 1.7, and I think both are excellent. I have been using a Pentax K10D with the 35mm f2.8 Limited which is a beautiful lens but am now sold on the 20mm 1.7.
I especially love its low light, hand-held ability.

1/800 @f1.8 ISO 100

1/30 @f1.7 ISO 640

That's a nice first shot Chris - I find malls quite difficult for some reason, but when you get the right light conditions you can get some great shots!
Thanks for sharing

Peter, I think it came out well and can relate to all of your points. The fourth one definitely resonates with me :).
Waking up for the early light is tough, and it's amazing how quicly the light changes at that hour!

I've been struck by this as well. Compared to comparable lenses on DSLRs, I find myself more steady with the G1 and 20/1.7. I don't know if it has to do with the camera size, ergonomics, lack of mirror slap, or all of the above. 1/30s is consistently steady, which is a good thing since the auto-ISO defaults to that setting.

Surprisingly the waking up early was easy but caught up to me later in the day. Daylight saving helped as I got to sleep in an hour longer.
You are right about the light changing so quickly, I think there was a sweet spot of little more than 15 minutes however I got in 21 pics at exposures of up to 20 seconds with some moving around and lens changing. The first shot was at 5:14AM and the last 5:41AM however the last 10 minutes was well past the best light.
