Nic, Brisbane reminds me of Southern California. So much so, I feel I can get around without needing a map. I see some hills/mountains in the background, anything tall enough for snow in winter?

No, no snow around Brisbane. On the other side of the ranges it can get cold enough for it to snow a little on occasion, but you wouldn't be heading out there for a ski trip
