Face detection with eye priority at f2.0. ASA 640 - fluorescent.

The E-P3/45 combo is getting to be fun to use. Now I need to check out the IBIS with the 45:)

Ok, got some shots in. Crappy rainy day here in Ohio. Only adjustment was WB in Lightroom.

All shot @ F 1.8, no cropping.

I tried it out at full aperture.
It's FAST and sharp. But maybe a bit too bright to be shooting wide open in broad daylight.

too bright

The more shade I could find, the the richer the colors seemed.

Default Comparison Photos 42mm kit, 45mm f1.8, 50mm 4/3 lens

Hello
I sat on the porch on a rainy day yesterday and took a series of shots with 3 lenses. I had the ISO locked at 200 and shot each lens at its lowest f-stop.
The lenses were
14-42mm shot at 42mm f5.6
45mm shot at f1.8
4/3 50mm macro shot at f2.0

Here are the suspects in the lineup.

I cropped each photo and put them together. The full size crops are below. I did not move my but for the shots so the 42mm is the smaller image, the 45mm is in the middle, and the 50mm is the larger image. These are full sized crops. Any streaks on the photos are from the rain. I was on a porch. All shots were hand held with my E-PL2. Jpegs from the camera on Large-Fine.

My conclusion is that the kit lens is nowhere near the IQ of the new 45mm. The Olympus 50mm f2 lens is a bit sharper than the new 45mm. This might be a function of the extra focal length of the 50mm or more likely the result of the fact that the 50mm f2 is a "High Grade" Olympus lens.

Here are the full size crops for this totally unscientific comparison.

Thanked by Gusnyc, snkenai, phrenic and 12 others.

Brilliant series, really shows off the sharpness and shallow DOF of the lens. Thanks for sharing.

Great thread!!

And +1 to getting "617" to do a professional test of the 45mm!

Good stuff there!
For my ƒ1.4 & ƒ1.8 lenses, I have ND 8x and ND 16x filters so that I can shoot wide-open in daylight
