Fantastic concept. But at $2800 with no viewfinder you're 'avin' a larf, Sony.

if it had interchangeable lenses, maybe, but at that price I'd rather buy and lug around a MkII

For landscape specialists, this could be a real winner.

I wonder how it will compare in that regard to the Sigma DP2 Merrill.

I was considering the Sigma for high detail landscapes/nature.

It's quite a bit less expensive and the Foveon sensor renders impressive results.

Yes, but the I'm guessing the Sony will manually focus in less than 10 full rotations. The X100 is awful (I'm being very polite here) for manual focus.

Sony is doing some big things. And i kind of agree with stevehuffphoto.com. The price is HIGH but its the first of its kind and its not meant to be in the hands of everyone. I agree on Sony just showing what they can do. Now other manufacturers have to step up their game

Yes. The best thing that comes out of this is Sony trailblazing a path toward FF sensors in small bodies. They're the first, and as the first you're bound to make mistakes. Here's hoping this isn't the last of its kind.

I agree. I dont believe Sony thinks that this product will be a hit, but its likely to lead to a FF NEX down the road if it is received well.

I'm so pained with all the new choices out there. For me it boils down to the new Pentax Q10 or the RX1, they are so similar.

To get a feel for the size. Here are some picts from dpreview. The RX100 is almost exactly the same size as the NEX 6 w/16-50mm lens. Which happens to be almost the size of the GX1 w/14-42mm lens.

I like the wider angle for a kit lens, the key is if the IQ in the 16-50 (m43 eq. of 12-37.5mm) will be good. Stand alone purchase retail is $350 and kinda puts it in the range of the 12-50mm from Olympus which is quite good fro a kit zoom.
