Default New site section for member-generated gear reviews, impressions, and opinions

Most of us have had the experience of making a difficult gear-buying decision. While there is a role for the detailed technical reviews posted at DPReview, the Imaging Resource, DCRP, and elsewhere, a brief, honest opinion from a trusted source can make all the difference.

When I launched these forums in December, I started a number of "How do you like your..." threads in order to solicit valuable user reviews/impressions/opinions from our members about their gear purchases. Some of those threads are already great resources for prospective buyers, but they are getting harder to find as the site gets more busy.

In order to make it easier for our members to find one another's user reviews, I've set up a new section accessible via the "Reviews" tab at the top of the screen. I've also pre-populated that section with the existing MFT cameras and lenses.

Of course, I couldn't pre-populate the adapted lens section as the possibilities there are virtually endless. Fortunately, it couldn't be easier to add a new lens to our database. Simply click on the link for "Upload Products" and follow the prompts.

I hope some of you will help us get this section going by posting your reviews/impressions/opinions about your MFT gear. Meanwhile, if you see anything there that needs fixing, please let me know in this thread.

Does it mean that something like I tried to start with the following may be of value?

Ray, absolutely. Hopefully our reviews sections will make it easier to get that kind of data. I'd love to see our members contribute their experiences with various adapted lenses to help generate a comprehensive database.

Amin

there is great interest in MF glass

just an idea, following from Ray's DB

It could be interesting if we had a MF lens "section" or whatever with a list of MF lenses, split into the normal sub groups, of wide, normal and tele - giving a photo of the lens - members opinions and links to images that we have taken with those lenses

we could, dare I suggest, even have a Blog, dedicated only to MF glass

Bill, I think our Reviews section is perfectly suited to that. For example, later today I will be adding the CV Nokton 50/1.5 to the database under the adapted lens short tele category. Once I've added it to the product database, I will write a brief "review" covering pros, cons, the adapter I used, how much I paid, and linking to a couple samples. Anyone else will be able to write their own "reviews" of the same lens once it is in the database.

It's all very easy to do, and unlike a blog, the format will make it very easy to locate the infomation later. I'll make a video of myself adding the Nokton to the database and reviewing it in case anyone would like to see how that is done before giving it a try.

Its a great idea Amin. Yes I have gained experience in the short time ive used my 4/3 gear but after what seems a life time...I still cant write worth a damn. If Bill/shooter or BB would come live with me for a month maybe then I could morph some of their writing skills into my deadhead. Until then Im afraid Im just another avid reader.....but hey, great idea.

Pete

The review section is a great idea,
I have gained a lot of encouragement and inspiration form this forum,
to quote Pete I too have a "deadhead".
I have great difficulty in writing down my thoughts.
