^^ The original and most accurate description, albeit probably not a name any manufacturer is going to champion.

EVIL:

Electronic viewfinder? Check (includes rear LCD/OLED screens under the definition of a viewfinder)
Interchangeable lens? Check

For the alternative, DSLM:

- Single lens implies that there is an alternative that doesn't have a single lens - nothing for a few decades at least.
- Mirrorless only makes sense when comparing with an SLR

Heck, even the word digital is becoming a bit redundant!

I am not on their payroll. I don't care what they think.

Good call, that term seems very fitting for the x100/Leica x1/x2 types. As others have said the "SL" part is redundant. Something like "ILM", interchangeable lens mirrorless, would say enough. I still see these types of cameras underneath DSLR headings on many websites.

My rant....

Wish marketing guys would get off the whole "D" for digital thing... Its way over played, majority of the consumer market shoots digital, and we don't need a letter to distinguish film from digital any longer. Digital has been available to the consumer market for about 10 years now. Sheesh... let's be creative now. Even a left brain'd individual such as I can figure out better monikers or designations without starting with the letter "D".

Nikon and Canon are particularly lazy at this...

Can you tell DSLM doesn't chime with me? It has a "D". no kidding? Single-lens... in relative to what??? Back in the day it was to separate themselves from TLR's.. that was what? 4 decades ago? Mirrorless.. again.. relative to what.. Reflex cameras? No kidding?

I particularly like EVIL. Electronic Viewfinder and Interchangeable lens. Two of the defining features of these cameras.
