I cracked too and bought the LVF1 after realising that there would probably be no replacement - and now I only use the screen on the back of the camera to check pictures in replay. Surely there must be thousands of users like myself who need reading glasses to view the screen on the camera back but don't use them to view the world while deciding to take a shot... or do they wear sprung-loaded specs which ping into place everytime they want to view the screen. Without this facility I find the eyelevel viewfinder a necessity with its built in dioptre adjustment.

Just a thought, 43rumours has it on pretty good word the GF2 will not be making an appearance at photokina.

So I wonder if they might do an LVF-2 in its place, also considering they have 2 cameras that can now take it, LX5 being the other.

Its been said a few times that perhaps the interface can't handle higher resolution, but I can't seriously see why panasonic wouldn't have designed the bus any different from the internal bus on Gx series viewfinders.

Something to think about. It would make the GF1 even more desirable than it is now.

I still have my darkcloth from my medium and large format days. I wonder how silly I could look using that?

Actually who cares how silly I look - it has never stopped me before.

Whilst it is essential for framing shots in bright light and probably a very useful battery saver, the resolution is really too poor and I am fed up when I need to take a picture in swift time and the dioptre adjuster has been moved again and I have to just go on fuzzy shapes, not detail - so an adequate replacement would be very welcome. Or maybe Panasonic's next version of the camera will come with a built in viewfinder.

After many months of use I am still very happy with the VF1. It's nowhere near as sharp and clear as the Oly model, but I find it very comfortable for my style of shooting.

When allied with the GF1's superb ergonomics and control layout, it's easy to use and very effective.

For legacy glass there are times when I don't magnify, but when I need to it's a simple press of the wheel button, which is impossible to miss with my thumb. The magnified view in the VF1 serves very well.

Default it has a magnifier?

I guess I need to look for the directions. I didn't know that it had one. I have had it several months and while I don't use it all of the time, I do use it often.
